What are your religous beliefs?

Recommended Posts

Um, technically, you can ONLY prove something does exist.

"Look, here in my hand is an apple . . . therefore . . . it exists" (let's just go with the logical and leave existentialism out of it for now).

You can not say, logically, "I do not have an apple in my hand, therefore they do not exist in the Universe."

You can not prove a negative instance.

So, yes, you are correct when you say science can not disprove the existance of God, but then again, it's an illogical assumption to begin with that it would be possible.

I myself do not lose any sleep trying to do so. I don't believe in god, period. However, it seems there is a concern among some religious circles that one can not have a scientific approach to the world and still have faith in the existence of a god. I don't think one negates the other. I know many scientists who do believe in God. They tend not to adhere to the "creation" theory though.

>>I'm not saying the Bible is wrong<<
Then, you are saying the Bible is right, right?
If you know the Bible is right, well, then you know.

Why is it perplexing? I dont care if the Bible is wrong or right, in my view its just a book. Just like the Koran and other holy texts. Plain and simple book that to some its the end all be all holiest book out there with all the answers.

Variables? What variables?
Number of stars? How many are there?
Age of the Universe? How old is it?
Type of stars.....etc.,etc., carbon, water, cold, hot?
Where does the information regarding such things come from?
Scientists?
Theories?
And you believe it, why, because a scientist wrote it down in a book?

Hell yeah I'll believe a Scientist who publishes his works to have them scrutinized by his peers. Look up the Drake equation, published in the 1960s and still used today by many. The answer to many of the questions you have are out there, all you have to do is look them up. How many stars? Well lets say billions and most would agree with me that's a conservative estimate. Age of the universe, again look it up. Most would use the Hubble constant and it comes out to 12+ billion years old. Types of stars. Look a H-R diagram for life cycles, you could also take a spectrograph of a star to see what its made out of. By using these two you could classify which stars would be the best candidates to have planets that might support life. Wait but we cant see those planets can we. Nope, but we can use certain equations to figure out if they have planets orbiting them. All these are proven to work. So yes I do believe them more than I do the Bible. Again if you believe the Bible fine with me, but in light of all the evidence out there I just cant take the Bible on plain and simple faith.

My beliefs are my own and very private. I don't debate them anymore because somebody else always says they're right and I'm wrong.

I do believe we're all part of something greater than just our individual selves. I think we need to make the most of ourselves, but we'll never be all that we can until we also realize we're part of something greater, call it what you will, call it God.

I believe that any belief system without a deep sense of compassion for human suffering is worthless.

And I believe that humans have a need for spirituality that is every bit as deep as our needs for food and reproducing. We need to why we're here and we need purpose, again greater than just ourselves.

I don't pray to an invisible man in the sky whom I've never seen/met and that has a special list of 10 things I am never to do or he'll send me to another imaginary place where I will burn for eternity.

Well I am a Christian, and I don't believe in any of those things either.

I've noticed a lot of people have misconceptions about what Christians actually believe, and that many people who criticize the Bible have never actually bothered to read it.

Attended church for many years. Read the bible cover to cover several times.

It was after this that I came to my conclusions.

I'm a saved Christian since age 15. And yes, we live in times where Christians are persecuted quite a bit.

Christians aren't perfect, but at least they know where they're going when they've made their last jump.

I have just recently quit being a church member.
However yesterday I visited a church because a aquantance friend of mine told me their church has a visiting music minister..some guy name Tommy..he played with the group Boston in like 1994(?).
I slowly will seek another church that has something for a single,45 yr old man, never married (prob. never will)
BUT, I do vow to read more on my own, seek videos tape, seminars and walk the walk more than ever!
I will read and apply it to my life, health, action and words..
PS. I'm going to see Billy Graham Crusade Nov.18-21
(one of the dates) Pasadena, Rose Bowl.
Anyone else want to go?

not addressed to base, just a general comment

I don't have a problem with anyone else's beliefs as long as they aren't rude or pushy when mine aren't the same. I don't mind people who want to talk about their religion, so long as they're knowledgable about what they're talking about.

Example: a mormon missionary was telling me about Jesus preaching in the new world. I asked how Jesus could possibly get to the new world from the Jerusalem area, and they had no clue how to answer that question.

If you're going to try to explain your faith to someone else, make sure you understand it yourself, at least well enough to give intelligent answers to someone who may have never heard of what you're talking about.

I find it hard to believe that anyone accepts that from nothing came a long series of perhaps tens of thousands of accidents, resulting in you.

It's not so hard for me, considering that those tens of thousands are an infinitesimally small chain in the infinite number of "accidents" that have/continue to occur.

I always catch myself after something I have said or did going... wow.. that probably wasn't the best or nicest thing to say.. we are not perfect... but I do my best to be something good to others.

I know where I'm going after my last jump. Same place where my grandparents are, and their grandparents, and exactly where I came from .... back into the earth.

Religon does nothing for me. To me it is just another form of government designed to rule over you.
God was created by man as a tool to control the ignorant.
Just yesterday on the evening news a politician stated that god and jesus (pronounced; Hey-zues) were deeply concerned about the outcome of this Presidential election. SAY WHAT!!!! What a crock of sh-t.
I find it to be obscene that people would believe that an omnipotent presence in the universe would be concerned over their arcane little lives when there is so much greater strife on this planet.
There is genocide, starvation, virus and all out war on the human race around the planet. WHERE THE F_CK IS YOUR GOD IN THESE PLACES. How egotistic can a person with a roof over their head and food in their belly be to believe that a god is there for them yet not for those left to the enviroment in which they must exsist in.
Can you honestly look into the eyes of a child dying of AIDS and say that "God is here for you"? If you can, I do not at all feel sorry for you. I fear you.

If you are leaving it up to a god to keep you from dying in this sport, please take up checkers.

You cannot claim to know what exist beyond death. To say that one is going to heaven is an impossiable statement that has no substance and is completely void of fact.
One can only state that they were born into existance and that they do exist and that they will someday die. As to where they will go after death is only speculation.
