If they don't issue a back up Glock in the same caliber, I'll buy the sub compact for a matching set. peregrinerose 0 #30 November 2, 2004 Usually carry a S&W .357 (made of scandium, very little and the rounds weigh more than the gun). Also have a glock 9mm, but rarely carry that one, the grip doesn't sit right in my hand. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

JohnRich 4 #32 November 2, 2004 Quotebasically I quite trying after I scored the minimum... Yeah, that's a temptation. I've been tempted too, upon reaching that guaranteed-passing point, to start going for the more difficult head shots. But I figure that would mess up my perfect score, and I'd rather have that. I can have fun later on my own.
JohnRich 4 #33 November 2, 2004 QuoteLooks like almost all the hits were in the heart, if you were shooting her in the back. Hah! Yeah, for some reason I did tend to pull them to the left. But what the heck, it was a .45, and it's going to stop a bad guy, even if it is off an inch to the left.
JohnRich 4 #34 November 2, 2004 QuoteAnyway, I will be taking the course in a few weeks and I was curious about what they did when the hole gets to big in the center. John, Did they put tape over yours and you removed it after? That one-big-hole shot group did produce a humorous moment. The instructor told everyone to pull down their neighbors target, and score it, counting for 50 shots. On most targets, the group size was big enough that you could actually count 50 different bullet holes. The poor guy that got my target, looked at it, got this quizzical look on his face, turned to the instructor, and said; "How do I score this?" The instructor told him just to assume that all 50 shots went through that gaping hole. I'm not sure what you're asking about the tape. In the Texas qualification, you shoot all 50 shots before it is scored. So you never use "pasters" to cover up any holes along the way.
JohnRich 4 #35 November 2, 2004 QuoteOooh, a silhouette target! Good thing you're not living in Massachusetts, where silhouette targets are banned. (I guess the fear is that if a person shoots at silhouette targets, he'll develop a madness that causes him to wish to murder human beings. Fortunately, Texas hasn't been infected by the Massachusetts politically-correct madness disease. We're still practical enough to know that if you're going to carry a gun for self-defense against bad guys, then the qualification ought to be on a target that's shaped like a bad guy. Mostly I just shoot round black spots on white paper. If someone ever breeds a race of white deer with a big black spot over their chest, they'll be in big trouble from me during hunting season. JohnRich 4 #36 November 2, 2004 QuoteThe Tueller drill.... a person with a knife can close from 7 yards and cut you before you can draw/fire. The only question I have about those demonstrations is; how often does a knife assailant suddenly run at you from that distance with that degree of determination? It seems to me more likely that he's asking for your wallet, and you've got time to stall him a bit to get your gun out. And if not, step aside when he charges so that he misses you, while drawing your gun.

Jethers203 0 #38 November 2, 2004 I thought they put tape over your holes because the group was so tight. On your target, the area around the holes is colored differently than the other blue in the target. I thought it was taped. If it wasn't taped, why does it look different? Just curious. Oh yeah, that's the kind of deer I need to see during deer season. And if he can make his "target" the correct size proportional to his distance, that would be even better. kmcguffee 0 #50 November 6, 2004 Quote What do you carry? A Glock 27 and/or a Glock 22. QuoteWhat was your range qualification score? I qualify quarterly so I don't have a single score. I usually score between 96-100. I sometimes throw a few shooting left handed from the 25 yard line or during the rapid fire portion from the 15 yard line. The rapid fire is seven rounds in six seconds from the holster. I think range standards are too different between states to really compare.
