AggieDave 6 #1 November 2, 2004 I'm in the market for some new leather and I'd like to see what everyone else has used/tried and prefered. For right now I just have a Galco slide for my new Kimber, but am willing to try something new and was thinking of an in the waistband holster. The downside is I bought the Kimber TLE/LR II Pro, so with the light rail it may be harder to find traditional leather for it. I really like it, so its a fair trade off to me. I've used other belt holsters and a small of the back holster for other weapons before, but I wasn't real happy with them. Small of the back didn't have good retention (probably just the holster I had) and the belt holster was way too bulky.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Jib 0 #2 November 2, 2004 I have a Andrews (I think http://www.andrewsleather.com/ for my Paraordnance 1911 -- SOB/right hip and a pocket drop for my Kahr. It's sturdy stuff, but I wish I could get around the Kahr better. My favorite is the Glock metal one that's tapped into the rear of the slide. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. Kennedy 0 #3 November 3, 2004 Sorry Dave. I'd love to help, but my only actual experience is with synthetics, and that's for ankles only. Not exactly how you want to carry a Kimber full size with rail atachments. I'm very curious about the tuck rigs you see from DeSantis and Galco (tucking the shirt in outside the gun inside the pants, "j-hook"). Seems they would slow the draw a bit, but allows for a great deal more flexibility in apparel and motion. I can't wait to try out the DeSantis tuck rig that holds a mag "above" the barrel with my brother's Ruger KP345 (we made it a point to work with each other's gun when we llivede together, obvious reasons). I'll pass the word on that, but as for leather with a rail light, good luck. Maybe you can help me. The biggest issue I have is finding decent shirts that are long enough to keep cover when I raise my arms. I'm only 6'1", but my torso is that of a 6'6" man (short legs for my height). Short of paying outrageous prices for "Big and Tall" stores, where do you find yours? I've actually had the best luck from Cabelas, but I hate not trying them on first. Wait a minute, I'm reading your post before hitting the button, and I'm confused about it now. Are you talking about a TLE/LR with a light on it, or just a pistol with a rail? Leather for a gun with an empty rail shouldn't be that hard, but then I have no practial experience beyond gun store borders, so I'll shut up and hit "post."witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
AggieDave 6 #4 November 3, 2004 No light on it, no need to have a light on it. I have a surefire E2D that I can carry in my pocket and use more effectively then a bulky light mounted on a rail for carry situations. Then why did I get the TLE/RL II? Its a sexy weapon man, I saw it in the case and she was calling my name while taking her shirt off... Actually, leather fitted for a full sized Sig fits the weapon perfect, come to find out. Went to a local gunshop and was looking at some Galco leather, found some that I liked, but they didn't have any tan colored in stock...only burgundy (curse of living by Texas A&M I guess). As for the shits, I find that in the summer I carry small of the back due to shirt length. Nevermind I'm a chubby guy, so carrying under a t-shirt on the hip/kidney imprints really bad. So in the winter when I wear coats and/or baggy sweat shirts I tend to carry hip/kidney since its more comfortable and a more natrual draw for me. The downside is I have to practice back and forth with each system and each weapon I have to get the muscle memory right. Sort of like switching from ROL to BOC and back again during the year. The real shitty part is the only range that doesn't mind me practicing on the range is in Sherman (where I grew up) since they know me. That leaves me in my house practicing unchambered without the final steps of proper target accusition and firing. Oh well, someday hopefully I'll have enough land to have a backstop and some neumatic steel.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." OK, that's what I thought (flashlight instead of the rail thing). QuoteActually, leather fitted for a full sized Sig fits the weapon perfect, come to find out. Just curious, have you ever considered a crossdraw holster instead of your SOB? QuoteActually, leather fitted for a full sized Sig fits the weapon perfect, come to find out. You'd think someone would offer a holster specifically for that model. I wouldn't be happy with anything but their best effort for that gun. I'm a stickler for holster fit. I may have given them a show, but I told the gun store folks that if I can't do somersaults and retain it, then I'm not happy. I also didn't want a retention strap because it's enough BS to get to an ankle holster to begin with. It took a while, but I found a Galco ankle that made me happy. Great fit for my Taurus. It's kind of funny feeling the cylinder on your ankle when you've only grown up with semi-autos. Takes some getting used to, no doubbt about that. I'm wondering if it'll be strange to switch back to a small auto when I get my matching pair of Glocks. markd_nscr986 0 #8 November 3, 2004 I'm kind of partial to Desantis elastic belly band holster...very comfortable and very concealable even for a skinny guy like me.I carry a colt officers model in it and it does not move at all.In fact you hardly even feel you are carrying, that's how comfortable it is. The downside,it works best with an untucked baggy shirt, sweat shirt, hawaiian shirt, etc. If that is not your cup of tea,Dillon Precision has a number of fanny packs(belly packs) or day timerl ook a likes that are good concealment options tooMarc SCR 6046 SCS 3004

gmanpilot 0 #12 November 3, 2004 I'm kind of fond of Mitch Rosen's stuff and Kramer Leather for the best leather gear. Some other alternatives: *Desantis belly band-Very nice, especially if you modify it with shoulder straps. *Thunderwear-I don't like it, but some do. *Uncle Mike's fanny pack-It's deceivingly small and flat, like a cd player...I stick some earbud earphones out of the zipper for effect. You would never know it's not a cd player unless unless you knew Uncle Mike's stuff. Not a deep cover option though. *My all time favorite-Just stick it in your pants in the small of your back, the grip will keep it from sliding down. With jeans and a loose shirt, it's the least visible, most comfortable, and easily available method I know. I've been carrying that way on a daily basis for 18 years and it's never failed me yet._________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. Although, if you're a biker guy...they could pull off a ccl vest. Too bad I'm not 50yrs old with a huge gut and beard, then I could go "biker" and wear a vest all the time.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AggieDave 6 #15 November 3, 2004 They do have some nice vests. Its just you don't see many vests around here...never mind I'm not really a "vest" person, it would be obvious as hell on me. So around here a leather vest is usually a biker or a CCL person.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
