mardigrasbob 0 #27 November 15, 2004 I think Arnold is the man! I would love to see him as POTUS. The only problem is: he was born in Austria, not the good ole USA. So NO! Sorry Mr. Schwarzenegger, I would vote against amending the Constitution. Not because of him but because of the next charismatic immigrant or maybe the next! -----------------

Quote No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President Well, tell you what, instead of writing out a 20 page post about constitutional theory: spirit of the law and letter of the law, I'll just ask you to actually do some reading and come to your own conclusion what the founding fathers were state within the spirit of the law. From my perspective it was their understanding that it would be a long while until someone had been born since the constitution was written that would become a president, thus fullfilling the letter of the law, BUT in the spirit of the law the person should have been born in the colonies. Shotgun 1 #34 November 16, 2004 QuoteNo. You have to have a damn good reason to change the US constitution, and "there's this cool guy who could run for president!" is not one of those reasons. I can understand not wanting to change the Constitution specifically for Schwarzenegger, but why do you think that only US-born citizens should be able to run for President? (Or am I mis-understanding the Constitution? The wording doesn't really sound like it's banning foreigners from running for President???)
Jayruss 0 #35 November 17, 2004 Quote***the first few presidents were not born here . . . Wrong. Thanks for playing. Tell him what he wins Bob... Ok, seriously, every elected president has been born in the US, even George Washington. Sounds like you need to spend some time learning some American history. Correction, every President was born in the geographical USA however, there was no USA in 1732 when George was born. In fact the first President born in the USA was Martin Van Buren the 8th president of the United States. I will agree that my use of "here" was ambiguous in nature, most likely what incited your response. __________________________________________________ "Beware how you take away hope from another human being." -Oliver Wendell Holmes
