Here's another question: Do we Americans really care?

This is exactly what is most distressing about the entire situation...

That Europe can exert little influence on American politics??

No... rather that (most) Americans don't care about anybody besides themselves, and they're perfectly fine with that fact... I know that sounds like an attack, but please take it as my opinion only (and we all know about opinions..). I've lived in the States for a majority of my life, and that's just what I have observed.

The fact of the matter is...according to the last election...European press agencies tried desperately to trash Bush at every turn in order to sway their public to hate the man...as well as his policies...

There were several "groups" that attempted to influence voters waaaaaaaaaaay over here in the US of A to vote against Bush (and preferably for their golden boy, John F. Kerry)...

Most Europeans are surprised, it seems to me, when they come over here to meet individuals with a brain...and yes, I have met, spoken to, and called friend, several Europeans...

I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion...but these days...it seems to be the US against the rest of the world...and I personally think that is ridiculous...however, I don't think that will change over night...or anytime soon, for that matter...

Question 1 - I don't care.
Question 2 - I don't care.

The US is having a sale 20% off to europeans

The DZO's in the US like European jumpers
The Jump gear industry in the US likes Europeon jumpers.
The US chamber of commerce likes foreign tourists

At the present excange rate why would a foreign tourist need cheap flights and hotels. If the dollar goes any lower we'll be paying them to come here.

Tourism is good for the skydiving industry If your at eloy this xmas or Z-hills look around. Their helping to fill the airplanes, doing tandems and hireing packers and video people.:)
Everyone likes a sale:)

I didn't say they weren't welcome to enjoy our hospitality or particpate in our activities as tourists. I said that I don't care about their perceptions of us, nor do I care how they react to our election process.

Just as I'm sure they wouldn't mind my going over their as a tourist and embracing their culture and country as long as I don't meddle in their constitutional monarchy.
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

those who don't like it in the US don't go there.

the ones who go either like it or don't care about what's going on politically...

personally I don't really appreciate the actual government, but that's my opinion (and it belongs to Speakers Corner), and it won't stop me visiting a beautiful country with nice people (and dorks too, like EVERYWHERE in the world) and great skydiving facilities.

only went there once, but that's where my skydiving carreer began. Wish I could go back sometime...

How many Germans would really be concerned with which candidate Americans think is best in a German election?

RIght, just about zero. Is that a problem?

If not, why would it be a problem if Americans don't really worry about what another country's citizens think of US candidates in US elections?

Wish I could go back sometime...

:S
Wish I could go there, finally!

Folks of my favourite DZ are leaving to Perris on Dez 25, 2 weeks, about 45 skydivers but, not me [:/] (lack of time)

Other good friends already fixed their visit to Eloy next spring, some others are planning for Lake Wales.

I am working hard to find enough time during Easter holidays to jump somewhere in the US, as I will have to go to Canada for several days.

Anyhow, it is on top of my list for next year B|

(And if nothing works: There still is that lovely place called EMPURIABRAVA, my homeland :D:D in skydiving.)

I am sure European skydivers do not spend too much time in breaking their heads about present US policy
:P They just enjoy jumping over there.

Christel, you need to forget the west coast and NYC. Come down south. It's more friendly. You could come to Arkansas and we'll have a "wtw", you know: a white trash weekend. I'll get some old cars, stoves, and refrigerators dumped in the front yard and we'll drink beer, and shoot our guns at that junk right off the front porch. After that we'll go looking for fresh roadkill. No racoons or possums for us, my wife has some good recipes in her "Poor White Trash Cookbook" for beagle burgers and shepherd pie. After that we can go down to Hope, birthplace of Bill Clinton. Hope is actually more famous as the "watermelon capital of the world". They locals say Bill met and fell in love with his first watermelon there. She was real warm about noon. Then it's on to Little Rock to vist our famous governor who turns convicted criminals loose on the public. He lets em loose for good behavior and a relationship with Jesus. Trouble is, some have killed again. Next stop is the Presidential Library nobody but Bill's lawyer buddies wanted. It looks like a doublewide trailer, but that's Bill's style. You have an open invitation:)

No, they are only concerned with what affects them. That is a big difference.

I don't care who is charge in Canada, I don't care who is in charge in Germany. It does not affect me.

That is not the same as not caring about anyone else. I care about other people, I just don't give a shit about other governments since other governments don't affect me.

What I find funny is that people from other countries care so much about the US...Or so they claim.

Fact is very few people know anything about what is going on in the US. I have talked to several people from overseas that were pissed about Bush getting re-elected. They wanted Kerry. I asked them what they knew about Kerry and they knew very little to nothing about the man. The only thing they knew was that he was not Bush.

So how can they have an opinion on who should run a country when they don't know jack about the canidate they wanted?

And the simple fact is no matter how much other people bash us for our news media being lap dogs....They get their information from their news agencies as well.

And several of their news agencies had the same party line about this last election....Anyone but Bush.

They didn't know about Kerry because THEIR news agencies didn't cover him. Instead they trashed Bush.

I find it funny that a good number of people outside the US think they know anything about the US.

You claim we don't understand your country....What makes you think you understand ours?

Now, that's what I call an invitation :D:D ROFLMAO

The White Trash is exactly what I'd love to see as I read about it once in a magazin. But, to live it must be the perfect event with wonderful roadkill BBQs.

If only I could bring along my shotgut, it would be a pleasure to me killing some old fridges in your backyard

So, that's fixed. And where to jump ?

BTW: I always felt, there is something wrong in Bill's and Hillary's married life :S Now, I know why!

Comes down to the same point you make as the US being interested in what affects the US.

People arround the globe are interested in who the next POTUS is because affects them. It would be true to say that THE person with the biggest effect on world economies and world terrorism is the POTUS... thus they are interested in who you guys vote for.

I'd add quickly mind you that 99% of people, while "interested" really couldn't give enough of a damn to do anything at all about it. When asked for their view they'll give it... but I certainly couldn't see anyone going out of their way to do so - people just don't care that much.

how ironic,i think america is the country in the world pushing other countryes to play their "music"

Many euro people look at US as a scarry nation, not that you usaly want to harm us but showing the world that you deside means that the day we say somthing US dont like, its our turn.. some people would call that Terro, now go figure...

I do like US and looking forward to do my first trip next summer. The americans always spoke(well almost always:P) nice to me aslong i dont coment their politics...
I live in a country were im allowed to say that my goverment sucks. And people wouldnt raise much attention if i did,but doing so in US seems to me like trashing a flag or alike, then i dont feel people are free anymore.. and cant call it democratic...

So the sum. for me is that the americans are nice people aslong you get along whith them;)

And as said before your $is low,you pay no VAT,which means cheap stuff for me:ph34r::D

Just my 2 euro-cents...

Some people has wondered why we euros care so much about who americans choose as POTUS.
First you have to understand that Europe have had its share of wars and most of us are quite fed up with them. Every country has its history, but just in Spain, we have had to deal recently with a devastating civil war, 20 years of dictatorship, 30 years of terrorism that has just gotten worse.
If your president had started his war by himself, we would still be entitled to our opinion, but we wouldn´t be so loud. Bush has blackmailed, threaten and bribe other countries to do war with him. We, europeans, do not apreciate it. We don´t want any more wars, and you must admit that the reasons for this war are doubtful at best. We wanted Kerry, because he wasn´t bush. We don´t care about your internal politics, we DO care about a foreign policy that deeply affect Europe without taking it into consideration.
You may have started this war convinced that it was necesary, but Europe (the people) never saw it that way. And still thinks it was a mistake. It is normal that Bush is not well liked.
The funny thing is that if it wasn´t because Bush´s foreign policies affect us more than what you probably realize, i would love this dude. He is making the Mirage rig i was going to buy cheaper and cheaper.

Now I have a question, other than war and terrorism, do you americans think that Bush is doing a good job as a president. Please forget for a moment war, Kerry and terrorism.

None of that is our fault.

You growing terroism problem might be because you have shown that it works on you. Your people allowed it to decide your election.

Only if you consider the UN a joke (Which I do DUE to their lack of balls in enforcing the resolutions they passed).

Do you think your country (or any county) thinks about how its choices affect the US? I don't, nor do I think they should. A Government should do what is best for THEIR citizens first and formost.

You didn't know Kerry. You just hated Bush so much.

What I find funny is that people from other countries seem to think we should consider their feelings. Nope, our government needs to think about its citizens, not you. And like I said I doubt your country thinks about the US's citizens whan making choices.

Why is it OK for your country to not consider the US, but the US has to think about you?

Well you can't ignore Terroism.
Bush is a better man than Kerry who is a two face.

As for other issues, yes, I agree with many of Bush's ideas.

I think tax cuts stimulate an economy. We were headed into a recession when GWB took office, and we had a MAJOR issue that could have ruined the US. And we still managed.

Will Taxes have to go up at some time? Yes. But the easiest way to cause a problem is to jack them up and have people hide money and not put it into the economy.

Overall I think he is doinga good job, not perfect, but good.

Add in the fact I could not trust Kerry, and the fact that Bush is strong on Security. He was the man for the job.

Here's another question: Do we Americans really care?

well, that sums it up really. the Bush administration & its supporters are only dimly aware that a world exists outside of the US borders, and really don't give a shit about it.

This administration & its supporters basically do not know or care about diplomacy. A few months back I started a thread asking the pro-Bush people what Bush specifically means by the phrase "winning hearts and minds" Not one of the pro-Bush people on here could give a response. Oh actually one did, but he compared it to the "assault weapons ban", pointing out that it doesn't actually ban assault weapons.

so basically even the pro-Bushies here admit that the phrase "winning hearts and minds" is empty BS. something Bush just tossed out there to influence moderates.

We don´t start wars, we don´t like sending our kids to get killed, and we don´t certainly enjoy when they come home crippled and sick, just to forget about them when the war is over.

We don´t have a nice history, like most of the countries out there, but certainly the U.S. doesn´t get to do any teaching about human rights, democracy or even wars. Don´t forget Vietnam 1 and Vietnam 2 (Sorry, Iraq)

Remember, that within four years, Bush will be no longer in office, he will be celebrating parties with his rich cronnies while you will still be watching your people die in Irak.

KERRY was two faced? Compared to Bush? Laughable.
What "MAJOR issue" did we have that could have "ruined the US?" As tragic as 9-11 was, it doesn't even begin to have the potential of ruining the US, except possibly with respect to Bush's reactions.
