Meanwhile, the Indonesian government has banned children under the age of 16 caught up in the disaster from being transferred out of Aceh, after reports of trafficking syndicates moving in.

The executive director of the United Nations' children's agency Unicef, Carol Bellamy, said it had received reports from a number of non-government organisations saying criminal trafficking groups were active in Aceh, with some using text messaging to offer children for adoption.

Some of the most antisocial people are the most highly educated and most intelligent. Unfortunately education and greed are not mutually exclusive. Neither are education and mean-spiritedness....

I agree, however, I also believe that poverty leads to crime in society, and education tends reduce poverty. I don't think it is a coincidence that the reading and math levels of prisoners is as low as it is, compared with society as a whole.

I don't see why educational opputunities would not have similar promise of crime reduction in other countries.
Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

In this situation, it's not a matter of education. The ones doing the kidnapping are probably not 5th grade dropouts. It's not lack of education that makes someone think "maybe I'll kidnap this young boy and commit acts that HAD I gone to 6th grade, I would have learned were wrong." Some people just are not wired right..... more school would not change that.
Some other crimes, I would agree... education does play a role, but here - nope.
