Hey, rec.skydiving was shouting your name today.

Why not go play on the other side of the fence, and leave our moderators to do their best

Lou: your post previous to this one was wonderful.

We appreciate what you do both for the military and for this fourm.

Greene, the sad thing is his whinning about the US troops, instead of being concentrated on his own troops (the UK), he rather just go on insulting our troops....

Yet, it is funny to see how they react when you say something about their royalty:D:D

I have read through this thread whilst trying to see all sides painted here.
The intent of this thread was to thank the troops serving their respective countries. The conflict is not limited to just the US, and the US is not the only country that has soldiers serving.
Certainly people do not have to agree with their governments position on the war, but that isnt what this is about.
Please try to keep in mind that although our men and women are deployed they are not they only ones that are serving.
Familes, friends, loved ones are also making sacrifices in their lives in support of these soldiers. They too are serving.
To those people we must also offer our heartfelt thanks.

It is an interesting paradox that I willingly volunteer to defend the freedom that allows those who have opposing views to my own to voice them with out fear of reprisal. I have learned to respect the opinions of others without feeling compelled to agree with them or tolerate their sometimes ill-chosen delivery.

I was deployed in the Spring/Summer of 2003 to Baghdad. I spent time answering "Dear Soldier" letters from high school and junior high students from America at large. Sitting there in my own selected quiet space, I got to personally thank a young girl for caring about my safety, honoring my service, and answer a few questions in the hope that we would both grow a little as a result.

When thank yous like the ones in this thread get hard to hear because of the noise, I can close my eyes and remember her big loopy handwriting and smiley faces adorning her homemade drawing of the Stars and Stripes

A simple thank you can go a long way - especially when one is far from home.
Arrive Safely

John

It's an honor to know that men and women, including folks like you, LouDiamond, and Pajarito choose to make your lives being ready to fight for us.

I truely appreciate your comment, hence I want to take the time to reply.

Yes, serving our country and defending it, is honorable: serving in our forces is honorable. However, it is NOT honorable to invade a country just to take over it's natural riches for profit. Iraq never threatened us or had the means to attack us.

All the 1,300+ military personnel who have died, have died in vain:

They didn't die to defend your or my freedom, they did not die for the Republic. They died for Exxon, Halliburton, Cheney, Bush, etc.

Believe it or not, but some ppl will get very rich off of these killings.

You have got to be kidding me. Obviously, you have never served overseas. You need to stop watching T.V. and get with the program. The majority of Iraqi people are very pleased with what we are doing over there. How do I know this, because I have served two tours in the Middle East. Our troops are dying for these people. We aren't over there defending oil wells, we are defending the people.

your welcome. while i missed the latest conflict, i did catch the first part back in 91, and then got activated for enduring freedom in 02. i would like to extend my wormest appreciation for the soldiers we have and wish them all the best.
i do, however, think that this latest war is just plain wrong. anyone all day long can say "we were protecting the iraqi people", well that may be true. that does not make it right, and what about the civil wars that have wracked several nations in africa, or any of the bloodshed that is going on everywhere else in the world? they don't have anything that we need. bottom line, this was about oil, and maybe someone was a little pissed off that his daddy got insulted and decided to do something about it. what happens when england decides that they can do a better job governing france, and then sends troops in? ok, bad example, but you get the point. i hate being lied to. of course, had they told the truth, it would have never happened. but you'll have that when half your cabinet is embedded in major oil companies and construction firms with contracts in iraq now.

Thanks, You don't know how much it meant to us all over there to know we had friends like you all who supported us. Most of the time I would see only negative things from the news about people in the states protesting against us and what WE DID AS OUR JOB. Its the same as a skydiving incident and a non skydivers prospective of what happened. You see the news but will never know the behind the scenes truth of what really happened and why we did what we did.

I ask you all this- If a combat Vet. wants to talk he will, Please don't ask him for a battle story and make him relive his horrors.

I can say it is great to be home and drinking BEER again.

Yea, not forgetting the thousands of service personel of every country in the coalition. Or the Aid workers and the humanitarian workers, and the Civilian contractors, Dr's, Nurses, and anyone else that runs the risk of being blown to bits or having their head hacked off. Good luck to you all.

I too would like to express my thanks to those who serve and their families that "Also serve that stand and wait" but there are not words that can express adequately. Thank you will have to do, for now.

DiverDriver:
Thanks for this thread, I started one on Vetran's day a couple years ago and it ended up getting locked.
