Aaah! I see. You were the kaaskop with the yellow panel blocking the lane with his old vehicle when I tried to reach Teuge in daylight around X-Mas. B|

Yes If some idiot with a yellow panel does something wrong blame me!

You hope Germans will win in soccer?!?! Against the Oranjes? No, impossible. That would totally twist German soccer fans hating the Dutch ones :S :P

I do not consider fighting soccer fans as a problem. A time ago I propossed to make them the main attraction in the stadium. Like the roman gladiators

Seriously said, from my experience, the Dutch still are hating Germans more than any other European country does (perhaps UK?). And OTOH, they accepted and loved Beatrix' husband that much, right? :)

Please do not ask me the intelligence level of the people making problems with the germans (or the french). They can come up with an argument other than I want my bike back (At the end of WW2 the germans took all the bikes from the dutch to go back to germany)
Personally I liked Beatrix' father more (Prins Bernard, also german) which died a short while ago. He is the only one in holland who asked me to come over and jump into his garden on his birthday.

In my european country the nazi symbols are not banned, but If you wear one you run into trouble, because the cops will find something to give you a ticket. I do not think you are allowed to enter a bar wearing one.

I didn't know that. In fact I thought these symbols were banned in nearly all EU countries. It seems I was wrong.

I think the Americans and the allied forces deserve more credit than the Nazis for keeping communism out of Western Europe.

The Marshall Plan and the formation of NATO was a good example of how doing the right thing can pay off.

So did Renault, producing for the German army. Hence it nationalization after the liberation as punishment (which has now turned back to haunt the French government for several decades...).

Now if the British had made cars for the Germans, we could have won the war even sooner. :P

The point of banning the Swastika is that many people find it deeply offensive.

Maybe those of you questioning this ban should ask yourselves why your own country operate a ban on women getting their tits out in public places.

Is it that unreasonable that some people find the Swastiak more offensive than breasts?

Many people in Virginia recently found hip riding jeans offensive and tried to dictate what clothing someone could wear. Can we assume you supported the ban on this type of clothing because some people found it offensive?

Finding someting offensive does not justifying banning it.

nope. i'm just raising the point that those who question the ban on the Swastika might want to think a bit more about all the daft things that are banned in their own countries.

Absolutely. Depending on the tits of course.

I don't think it should, but it does seem to.

True. I've seen tits that were so ugly and wrinkley that I found them offensive, but I still support a womans right to get them out in public. I can think of no justification to ban public display of all tits just because some are offensive.

I find this interesting. Would Buddhists be prohibited from using their ancient symbol of peace, which is now generally recognized as a Swastika? Will these laws bar reference to them in historical treatises and books?

Will the goosestep be cause for imprisonment? Will "Mein Kamf" be banned? Will the color scheme or red, white and black be banned?

Goodness. This sensitivity stuff is getting out of control...

Nonsense of course. The swastika that the Nazis used, and the ones that Hindus and Budhists use are different and would not be affected. Learn all about the correct use of the swastika here:

Amd never underestimate how close to the surface the scars of WWII still are in Europe. It's got nothing to do with political correctness.

Not surprising...already in France they've removed the freedom to express religious preference. This is next.

Western Europe is becoming a creaking example of what they used to fear in the former Soviet Bloc. Already, there is no freedom of press or in some cases political expression.

Hopefully, members of the EU that were formerly behind the Iron Curtain will vigorously fight this kind of censorship.

I don't like what the Swastika represents in the western world either, but by banning it, we will forget what it meant in the 1930s-40s. You need to see it to be reminded of it, so that we can see the hatred it represents in some circles.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Y'all know... It's NOT the symbol, it's the behaviour.

Personally I'd like to see the "Nazi" Swastika allowed anywhere. I'd also like to see it made mandatory wear for all the right wing lunatics... A little like the yellow star was made mandatory for Jews in Nazi Germany.

Give the faschists their badge! Let them... No... Make them wear it. Then you know them for who & what they are. Your behaviour towards them is then, of course, up to you!

You surely are talking about the religious symbols ("flashy" religious symbols). The freedom to express your religion is not removed. To present these symbols or not, already was a big issue in South Germany. So, in an elementary school, the "Cross" had to be removed. If you think a little bit ahead, it's not the worst idea to NOT show your religious symbols f. e. in schools.

Monsieur le Connoisseur, how long did you live in Europe? The Western Europe press is free as freedom of press can be. Otherwise, we would not have learned so much about the world and the US, just f.e. Guy, we go wherever we want to. We read every printed paper available in every country of the world. You must be kidding with such a foolish statement.

BTW: I watch CNN and other channels... I am not locked in my little German world ;)

As long as it could be used as a digression :P, right on B|

The Nazis forced people they considered different wear ID badges.
You want to force people you consider different wear ID badges.

See any similarities there? Or are you above reproach because you "know you're right?"
(hint: Nazis "knew they were right" too)

I still wonder what makes people think "left" big government would be better than "right" beg government.

That needs a little more of consideration, I think this idea is not the worst.... but

- how to force these idiots to wear their beloved Swastika? One good idea is to make them public. To show their faces, especially the "politicians" beneath them.

- Pls do not forget there still are many survivors of CCs and their families. Not only Jewish. Could they stand to see that symbol again in the street, knowing, parts of family were killed.... No. For that, it's much toooo early.

- What about a nice little tatoo just on their foreheads showing NAZI? Imagine, that idiot is trying to find a job.... OK, perhaps not my best joke. :S

There's the concept of "irony" or "poetic Justice" in my last post. Maybe you missed the deliberateness of it.

There's also one small but significant difference: "Your behaviour towards them is then, of course, up to you." That's called individual right.

No Kristallenacht! No "Final Solution"! I believe that the Nazi (NSDAP) Swastika SHOULD be allowed. Mandatory would be nice, but not really neccessary since all the little Hitler Wannabees will flock to it and wear "their" badge with pride. So yeah... I'll trust the stupidity of adherents to the Nazi political philosophy to do the rest.

I'm sure I'm not the only European who finds your statement that there is no freedom of press or in some cases political expression just slightly at odds with the reality we are living in.

What are your sources for this wisdom?

If he meant eastern europe, that case is so easy to make that I won't bother to unless someone disputes it.
(and Russia is backsliding more and more as well)

If he actually meant western europe, or old europe, the what he said is true to a point.

I have noticed more and more, when I was there and in your local press, that "freedom of speech" is becoming more and more "freedom to say anything as long as it won't offend an action group." Everytime you tell Nazis they can't march, that is not freedom of political expression. Everytime a book with negative tones about muslims is censored for supposed "hate speech," that is not freedom of the press.

Freedom means you have to let the idiots have their voice just like the rest of us. As much as I don't look forward to the next KKK march in NYC, I can't legally stop them, and I wouldn't want the power to do so.
