Second Term Inaugurations need to go......

Recommended Posts

this reference is toward administration an is in fact very accurate.[:/]

What an awful way to refer to our brave service men and women, Quade. Disgraceful, really.

I don't see that he is showing disrespect to what our troops are doing.

He is saying the reasons they are there are wrong and are a real disrespect to their promise to defend this country.

2nd Inaugurations are stupid and boring. What the hell is the point? As pointless as the RNC was in NYC (yes, and the same for when Clinton was going for the 2nd term). Is GW going to make more promises about stuff he won't do? Still, who is surprised that both Bush and Clinton liked to throw a big party? Look at their past!

Does anyone have any links from the White House on these donations that paid for the party?

Of course it is, but it's fun. If the people who went to the inauguration paid for it voluntarily, then it would be very much like the WFFC and no problem whatsoever. The problem is, of course, that taxes pay for the inauguration, which means you and me.

Your and my taxes pay for the Inauguration ONLY just like has been done for over 200 years. The Balls, the parties, all the rest are paid for by the participants and supporters.

Imagine what the public would say if they found out that THEY paid for the jumps, the beer and the wet T-shirt contest at Rantoul.

Like I said check your facts...we only pay for the actual Inauguration, and we have been paying for it since it started with Washington.

Breaking with TRADITION, the administration says it will not reimburse the District of Columbia for nearly $12 million in security expenses

How much do you think the City saves on an average day by having the Secret Service? How much do you think the city makes by having the Inauguration there?

What about no inaugurations at all - 1st or 2nd term? Everyone knows who won after the election anyway. and those who don't, aren't going to pay attention to a civil ceremony.

The swearing in of the President is a Constitutional requirement...

Article II, Section 1, Clause 8:
Quote

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:--"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

The pomp and circumstance rose out of wanting to show the world how power could be transferred peacefully... I think a larger public ceremony is appropriate for a first term, but a low key (swearing in, short speech, no parade) one is appropriate for a second... if people want to throw him a party they can, but the public should not pick up the tab (which, aside from security, they are not)

The Presdident lives in DC, so the secret services has to be there....

I have no clue how much the city makes or should I say businesses that are located in the city.

DC sales tax alone is 9% and that applies to restaurants iirc. Don't remember off hand how much the tax is on hotels, rental cars etc. but it's very high, most likely over 20%.

Who cares how much the city makes. Sure, the hotels will make money and the conference planners will but what about all the small businesses that are forced to either shut down or lose substantial amounts of business because of this? I am sure joe blow office supply store doesnt appreciate losing a couple days worth of business so the POTUS can do his grandstanding.

But then again, when has Bush ever cared about the small business owner?

Your right and I corrected myself above for the bad choice of words, He lied about a question or questions that never should have been asked......

This thread wasn't about Bush or Clinton and everytime someone starts bashing Bush you say "How about the Clintons" I stated before the IMO Clinton was a whore and I would like to think President Bush is a little better or maybe you don't think since you like to compare them.

I just jacked my own thread

You seemed to care how much the city spends...So how much the city makes is important. Its all part of business.

Sure, the hotels will make money and the conference planners

And they will pay people to work those events.

You are assuming that this will happen.

But then again, when has Bush ever cared about the small business owner?

He has not taxed them so much that they can't make a living.

Not assuming, it is a fact. All over the local news here in DC. Plus, when you shut down multiple city blocks what do you expect these businesses to do?

So its OK for the President to lie under oath?

Un the thread is very much about Bush and his second Inauguration. Some think he should not have it. Others think it should not be a big event (I hold this idea), Some say (incorrectly) that is is the tax payers that are paying for it all.

And in dealing with second term Presidents it is really right in line to ask about Clinton since he was the last President to have a Second Inauguration. One could also ask about Reagan, Nixon, Eisenhower , Truman, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Wilson,....I could go on, but I think you get the point. Clinton makes the most sense sense it is the closest to today.

So now you claim to defend the little guy?

Why did you not start that way?

No you started with

Bush is a fucking retard.....Another 4 years of being a public idiot?

The guy is a top notch jackass. He is utterly worthless.

Your hatred for him is clearly your first priority about this. You are now fishing for another arguement.

Ron, you are acting like your buddy michael moore again by manipulating my quotes to try and get your point across.

First off, the small business comment was in response to another point someone else made, it had nothing to do with my Bush is a fucking retard comment.

Ron, please answer this question for me. Is your support for Bush based solely on the fact that you are a Republican and believe in supporting your party, or do you honestly believe that he is the best leader for our country and support him because of that?

Wrong answer. Your first post in this thread was

Quote

Do you need me to provide a link to it? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1440557#1440557

Then only after I responded to you saying that it is your pure hatred about Bush that makes you care, and not the issue...THEN you you bitch more about Bush using Moore as your reference.

You STILL miss the point that the President does not have to be in the Oval Office to run the country.
It is clear you have no idea about how the President does his job.

Then you bitch about how the little guy has to shut down. Ignoring how much money is going to be brought into the city.

Your hatred for Bush blinds you to everything else.

It's not even fun to debate someone so blinded by hate.

So I am not going to anymore.

Here is a little idea for you. When the rest of the country is partying to celebrate the President swearing in...Hold your own little party. You can sit around and slam Bush all night, just don't bother to invite me.

Some people are blinded by hate and some are blinded by love. Many people in this forums thinks that Bush is close to the best thing that has happened to the U.S according to their posts.
If Bush family needs that ego bust, let them have their ceremony. I just think it is unapropiate to spend that much money given the situation you guys live in.
I concede that part of those millions will come back to the city, but not nearly as much money as they will be spent.

I never claimed otherwise.

Nor did I claim anything else. Are you looking for something to argue about?
