DexterBase 1 #1 January 23, 2005 I like it. Kmonster and I went and fired one, put about 250 rounds through it and it shot really well. I think I'm going to buy one. After we fired it, someone mentioned the P2000. I think it's more ergonomic (the P2000) and I like the LEM. What I don't like is the ambedextrious slide release. I don't imagine I would ever need to use it, unless I was shot in the right shoulder and was shooting left handed (in which case I could just release the slide with my index finger or do a combat reload), then it might be nice. It feels funny when I'm indexing and I just don't like it there. I don't like the lack of a safety or de-cocker either. I really think I'm going to just buy the USP compact. Any advice? Edit: typo. TomAiello 26 #2 January 23, 2005 I had a Sig compact (P229? is that the right number?) several years ago. I really liked it a lot. Have you shot that one?-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
LouDiamond 1 #3 January 23, 2005 We had a bunch of them for awhile because someone thought they were cool. They worked great but they wore out pretty quickly and they ended up on the shelf as accuracy went to hell. But I doubt you'll put even a fraction of the amount of rounds we put through them during a train up."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
Jimbo 0 #4 January 23, 2005 Interesting. Scott, with the weapons you're using, how long do they last before they start to show signs of wear? How long did the HKs last? - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
DexterBase 1 #5 January 23, 2005 How are you using the weapons? What role are they playing and after how many rounds do you notice a loss in performance?
LouDiamond 1 #6 January 23, 2005 Actually they say at 3500 rds on average the locking block will break on our current 9mm. I've seen them break earlier and of course right when your in the house and not on the flat range. I had one of the first runs of the Brigader upgrade and I had to keep an accurate rounds fired log on it. I went almost double the amount of ammo and didn't have any problems until around the 6000 mark which was at the end of a train up. The H&Ks started showing barrel wear around 4000 and some of the guns were falling apart and the blueing was just about gone. They made great concealment guns for PSDs but they ended up being more trouble than they were worth. For the average guy it is a good handgun but for what we do with them they didn't hold up very well."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

LouDiamond 1 #8 January 23, 2005 While not my favorite, the Berretta 92 is standard issue and the Glock 17 and 19. I prefer Glock personally and that's what I spent my money on for the 17,19 and 21."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

I've got a Beretta 92 and a Glock 21, and I've not put nearly the wear on the Glock that I have on the Beretta. I'm curious if you think it will hold up as well.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
DexterBase 1 #10 January 23, 2005 Are you using 9mm or 40 S&W?
LouDiamond 1 #11 January 23, 2005 I swear by my Glock. It's what I carry when I have the option and I agree with you on the wear. I used the USP in 45cal AKA the star wars gun and the USP 40 in 40 cal."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

LouDiamond 1 #13 January 23, 2005 The major complaint with the H&K mark 23 MOD 0 SOCOM pistol was it's size and heft. There is no holster available that will allow you to holster it with the silencer and laser/light mounted on it. By itself, it is a fairly hefty gun once you add all the pieces it becomes a very heavy hand gun similar in heft to the desert eagle. It too had a limited run and some liked it but few if any ever used it with the attachments other than on the flat range."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

The 17 I've had for a few years has held up very well. I've put about 14,000rds through my 17 and its still holding up well.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." blitzkrieg 0 #16 January 25, 2005 i currently use a sw99 as my main, but i like the USPs very much also. although, i think the .40 full size has a better overall feel and balance than the compact, but IMO that's generally true with any gun. the p229 is a great weapon as well, and has been proven over time. bottom line is, go with what you think feels better for you, depending on what you really will do with it. you really can't go wrong IMO with any of the guns mentioned here. even the 92, which i think is generally crap that it's standard issue, is decent and easy to shoot, and a lot of guys i know by them and shoot the hell out of them just because that's what they carry for work. hope that helps just a little.
