Conservatives are all close minded war mongers

Recommended Posts

Yeah, but people often confuse the term conservative with the neo-conservative group that came into Congress with Newt. The neo-conservatives do not seem to have traditional conservative values at all (at least not in my opinion), so we really need to have a clear distiction.

Unfortunately, the radio talk show hosts that a lot of people listen to (get brainwashed by) have decided to drop the "neo" and simply call themselves "conservative" which has bastardised the traditional meaning so now a large portion of people think they're conservative when in reality they've become extremists.

Yes, we can blame "the media" on this phenomena, but certainly not the "liberal media" as decried so often by those same radio talk show hosts.

For the conservatives I've personally known...when they were drafted they all entered as 'conscientious objectors'. Most became medics.

Could that be because you work in a medicaly related field? Are you saying no liberals did the same?

Media -does- have an influence on opinions and behaviour. All one need do is watch what happens when a celebrity changes their fashion or hair style and note how long it takes to become "popular".

If a person listens to, for instance, Rush, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year, I would wager a guess that he has taken on at least -some- of the opinions expoused by the man.

Rush, is anything -but- a conservative in the traditional sense. He is an extremist because that helps him get ratings. As a result, his audience becomes more extreme as well.

To deny this is to deny reality.

People who get all their news from conservative talk radio are pretty narrow minded by definition - their news comes from a very narrow source. They tend to believe things like Iraq pulled off 9/11, WMD's have been found in Iraq, the whole world supports our pre-emptive invasions etc.

People who get all their news from liberal talk radio are, of course, just as narrow-minded. Based on ratings of Garofolo vs Limbaugh there seem to be a lot more of the former than the latter, although that may change with time.

How did "listens to" get turned into "get all their news from?"

A matter of degree. A lot of people listen to conservative talk radio; it's hard to walk around the city here without hearing Rush coming from some radio or speaker. Some people listen to it almost exclusively. They are the 'mind number robots' that the original poster was talking about. Other listeners, those who listen to conservative radio AND other sources to counteract the slant are not as narrow minded.

You never answered my question:

I asked you to define the difference between a Conservative and a Neo-Conservative.

No to both questions. Although most became medics because they felt led to help people in that way and it didn't go against their values, some became clergy. My high school history teacher was a medic while his twin brother was a minister. His last post was on the USS Tarawa.

i agree entirely, thats why i cant understand why GWB got back in. he is so blatantly thinking of his own pocket at the expense of the U.S. economy! just watch the U.S.$ go down and down. my prediction is the euro will become the stable currency the whole third world will be using instead of barrow loads of thier own! you can almost cover the tray of the barrow with U.S.$ already:P

cheap slots for me though our $(nz) is going upB|

In reality a conservative would almost never go to war because while it is -very- good for a certain segment of the economy, overall it's a HUGE drag. Maybe not in the short term, but -certainly- in the long term. The U.S. taxpayers will be paying for Iraq for a -very- long time.
