Steroids vs. Smartpills?

Recommended Posts

I find the last sentence interesting.

U.S. Representative Darrell Issa, R-Calif., used his time during the U.S. House's Major League Baseball steroid hearings on Thursday for a bit of self-deprecation.

At one point, a certain representative asked the players testifying - Curt Schilling, Rafael Palmeiro, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and Jose Canseco - a hypothetical question: If they could take a pill that would make them several times smarter but knock a few years off their life expectancy, would they take it?
When it was Issa's time to ask questions of the players, he began innocuously enough, telling the players that owners of major sports teams had asked him to have Congress mandate a "zero tolerance policy" for steroids.
Then he laid out this stunner: He thinks the hypothetical "smart pill" should be something Congress mandates for itself to "save the nation."

He went further, saying he would give Congress a special mandate to take the pill, an exemption - presumably were the pill illegal, that is - "like we do," he said, for so many other things.

Of course. Then again, what I find extremely interesting is that this committee has the power to look into ANYTHING they want. And what do they choose? Steroids in baseball.

Very important to the nation. So much more important than JUST ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE. :S

I agree, [sarcasim]there are so many important issues to be discussed and acted on by Congress, but steroids in baseball, and Scotish Tartan day are by far the most pressing[/sarcasim].

I can think of soooo many other things our government needs to focus on, its beyond my why this is even on the radar screen...

I'm sorry for the guy whos 16 year old committed suicide after using steroids, but who was in a better position to prevent it, MLB or the parent?

No no, Jose Canseco is the surrogate parent of all children. At the present time in the US, parenting your child is optional. :S
[:/]

I can see it now on "I love the 00's"

This is a stupid premise that show ignorance. It clearly suggests that using steroids will automatically knock of years of life expectency, which is absolutely untrue. If the guy asking the question had half a clue what he was talking about he might have said, "Would you use this illegal smart pill if it could cause any of the following side effects:
# Liver Damage --- Only when taken inproperly and in dangerous amounts.
# Feminizing effects in males (growth of breast tissue) --- Only occurs in some, stopping the cycle immediately will cease this occurance.
# Male attributes in females (deepening of voice, excessive hair growth) --- No effect on you, since you're male.
# Enlarged clitoris --- No effect on you since your male.
# Shrunken testicles --- Testicular atrophy will cease once the cycle is over (if it even occurs).
# Heart disease/heart attacks --- Only when taken improperly and in dangerous amounts, or when pre-disposed to heart disease.
# Physical addiction --- Very controllable, might as well not drink alcohol as well then?
# HIV/AIDS from the sharing of needles ---as long as you don't share needles
# Impotence --- Only occurs with some. Will cease when cycle is stopped, and medication can be taken to help with this anyways.
# Baldness --- Unfortunately in some.
# Pain and difficulty urinating --- Rare, will cease if cycle is stopped
# Enlarged prostate --- Rarely, in some that are pre-disposed to it.
# Smaller Breast in women --- No effect on males
# Menstrual cycle stops --- Read above.
# Adolescents experience premature closure of the growth plates (stunted growth) ---But your ok since you're over 21."
If I could make a wish, I think I'd pass.
Can't think of anything I need
No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound.
Nothing to eat, no books to read.
