Skyrad 0 #1 April 14, 2005 So fellow Brit, having spent alot of time in Europe lately I have seen we have alot in common but alot of differences. Who do you think us Brits have the most in common with? Brits only please..When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Zep 0 #2 April 14, 2005 I'm English an I don't identify with any of the above I don't even identify with the British. I'd identify with the angles If I could find one. As far as I'm concerned the British race is just a bunch of hienz 57. Blame Queen Victoria. The Scottish, Welsh an Manx are not included in these views. Skyrad 0 #3 April 15, 2005 You can't blame Queen Victoria for the Saxons, Danes, Romans and Normans. Don't forget that the Romans brought soldiers from all over their Empire, from Africa to Iraq. In fact there was 200 Iraqi oarsmen stationed in North Shields! Funny eh? Two thousand years ago the Iraqi's were occupying us!When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. miked10270 0 #4 April 15, 2005 Hmmm... I guess it has to be the Germans by a very short hair. Some of my happiest times have been with these people. I love their style, their humour(), their individual disobedience and their collective obedience. They make their country so beautiful. Then come the Danes, Swedes, Finns & Norwegians, but the cost of living can be so high - especially Finland ("My drinks cost WHAT!!? Do I get a free house with that!?"). Then the Commonwealth Colonials - Oz, Kiwi, Canada, Safrikaners. (actually, I have to say that - That's where all my family's scattered to). Then The Americans. - Nice people, but a little too fond of money - that's their environment. After that come the neutrals (Irish & Swiss - nice Wristwatches & Guinness. But...), followed by people I dislike - which transcends down through Fuzzy-Wuzzys, Kaffirs, Southern English Poufs, and finally (quelle surprise) The French!!!! Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. Prenait la pisse hors du FrançaisCanadiens méridionaux puisqu'avant lui à la mode. mr2mk1g 10 #5 April 15, 2005 Antipodeans certainly. Not only do we share common blood and language, but also an attitude. There’s just a certain element of – “sod it lets go down the pub” that I’m not so sure you get elsewhere. A kind of social ambivalence or apathy towards being bothered much about anything at times other than the comparative merits of two kinds of beer or what we’re next going to chuck on the barbi. With the yanks it's mostly a common language, a good bit of common blood and much of a common attitude, but it's certainly not as strong a similarity as with our Oz and NZ cousins. They’re just too easily excitable. With the Europeans... well... sometimes we're here in geographical terms only. Others... well we can be very good neighbors sometimes... but there are just those times when each side can relish doing some drilling at 11pm, even if we are always happy to share a cup of sugar. Of the three they've gotta be last on the list…. although I think third out of the whole world is still to be considered as close to our hearts. er... can this answer also count towards your other poll... I'd cross post but can't be arsed. My comments would be identical if I could be bothered
Plummets 0 #6 April 15, 2005 Does it matter, they're all part of the colonies and should therefore be treated with equal contempt. "Life is a bowl of deadly nightshade, stay way way out on the rim brother"
