kallend 2,026 #1 April 20, 2005 So the GF's daughter is a junior at Beloit College, where they currently have a big flap going on with students demanding "gender neutral" bathrooms and the administration saying "get real". Supposedly, gender specific bathrooms are a problem for trans-sexual students! Here's some background: groups.msn.com/Transgender/general.msnw?action=get_message&mview=0&ID_Message=30193&LastModified=4675514666751419402 So whaddya think?... Ron 10 #4 April 20, 2005 QuoteAt the New College of California, a liberal arts college in the Mission District of San Francisco, men's and women's rooms have recently given way to "de-gendered" restrooms, devoid of urinals as well as of white stick figures with pants or a skirt. Signs on the doors proclaim the new restroom politics: "Lots of people don't fit neatly into our culture's rigid two-gender system." Like it or not there are really only two major genders...Pick one. You should use the bathroom that is set up by if you are an innie or an outtie. AggieDave 6 #7 April 20, 2005 QuoteIt feels like PC gone amuck. Ding, we have a weiner. Well, we have a weiner, but its tucked between the legs and stuffed short with panties, then gets in a bind when it tries to use a womens restroom. I personally don't care what people think they want or what they do sexually; however, trying to force change in bathrooms? I can definately see how men trying to be women would really really make a women uncomfortable in a restroom.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." lawrocket 3 #8 April 20, 2005 Personally, I've got a problem with the concept. I think it can be stripped down to this issue - who should be uncomfortable? You've got transsexuals who don't want to use their birth-sex bathrooms because it apparently would make them uncomfortable. So the go to the opposite of birth-sex bathroom, which makes 90 percent of the rest of the population uncomfortable. Now, I've got no problem with the right to express themselves. But, I also think that time, place and manner should also be given some consideration. I like the idea of just having a separate restrooms for those who want "gender neutral." However, I think that fears of violence would not be remedied by this. While it won't mak the everyday person upset at seeing the opposite sex using the bathroom next to him/her, I also think that they might as well put a target on them. The violent bigots who are intent on doing some bootin' will simply hang out there where the victims will come right to them. The cure for that? Swift and harsh punishment of the agressors. unformed 0 #12 April 20, 2005 They need to stop bothering the rest of society with this gay politically correct bullshit. They should make restrooms, saying instead of "men" and "women", it should day "penis" and "vagina". make it much more simpler. (PS: I have nothing against gays, it's used figuratively.)This ad space for sale.

Rebecca 0 #14 April 20, 2005 Eh. Just go where you identify. People are people. If a transsexual or a boi or a transvestite wants to pee in the stall next to me, that's fine. Just don't get uncomfortable if I ask for toilet paper under the wall, or where you got those fantastic shoes. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk? Nightingale 0 #15 April 20, 2005 UC Berkeley has co-ed bathrooms. The doors on stalls extend to the floor, and are taller than usual, for privacy. ditto with shower areas. When I visited there, it was perfectly comfortable, and I really don't see why other public restrooms shouldn't be like that, provided they have the taller walls and doors for privacy. billvon 2,989 #25 April 20, 2005 Where I went to college, we had coed bathrooms in our living group. Even coed showers with a 'check first' rule. It took a little while to get used to (hey, I was coming from an all-boys high school) but once I got used to it it was no big deal. We all poop the same way, and the way we pee isn't all that different. If people want coed bathrooms, give em coed bathrooms. If they want single sex bathrooms, give them that. Who cares? (other than the PC extremists and the anti-PC extremists that is.)
