MarkF 0 #26 May 7, 2005 QuoteSee, now that's the problem. Crime has gone up in Aus since the ban That's a load of crap - have a look at the various reports at http://www.aic.gov.au/stats/aust/vic.html and http://www.justice.vic.gov.au Making statements like "Crime has gone up in Aus since the ban" and expecting people to take it as truth is playing on exactly the same emotions as the Ed Chenel memo. Do try and back your assertions up with some facts. Oh I forgot - the pro or anti gun lobby don't deal in cold hard facts. They try and sway the agument by the creative use of emotive bullshit. Pretty much like the anti animal farming lobby (PETA), the mining lobby, the timber lobby and others. Ooroo Mark F...
MarkF 0 #27 May 7, 2005 Quote....Aus since the ban... Again, emotive crap. It's not a ban, I'm quite free to own almost any type of firearm provided I meet the requirements of the law - see http://www.police.vic.gov.au/showcontentpage.cfm?contentpageid=1938 Ooroo Mark F... kelpdiver 2 #28 May 9, 2005 QuoteQuotecome on, professor, you know better than to use a single data point to make a generalization. Get your facts straight - I didn't make a generalization, I presented a data point to refute a generalization. Fair enough. But it didn't refute much. Chicago's crime is hardly a selling point for the city. Same for NYC or DC.
yarpos 4 #29 May 11, 2005 tend to agree with mikkey co-incidentally I come from Melbourne also but now live in gun happy Switzerland (and yes I shoot). just fundamentally just putting all the stats aside. The Oz populace is not dis-armed. It is quite lawful to own handguns and rifles, but only lawful to own semi auto rifles for a business purpose like commercial hunting/culling. Relating crime to alledged withdrawal of the right to gun ownership is just pure BS. Oz society is not perfect and has a similar range of issues to any other modern developed country. mikkey , hope to catch up some day, I'm returning to Melbourne permanently later in 05 and getting back into jumping after a long absence. regards Steveregards, Steve the older I get...the better I was
