FallRate 0 #26 May 9, 2005 Speaking of motorcycles...anyone have a turn signal switch housing (with switch) for a '97 YZF1000R laying around. (The FZR1000 switch might be the same.) I really need one and don't want to pay list. FallRate
Lindsey 0 #27 May 9, 2005 I don't condone or participate in asshat riding techniques, but until you are a rider, stfu, you don't know whats going on. Just like the bullshit static the media and general public gives to skydiving. May I have your permission to speak? I do love riding, but it's crazy to think that the soccer mom driving her kids in the big SUV should stfu when some asshat, out of control rider wants to make her and her kids look at his gore when he doesn't quite make the gap.... Anyone has a right to say whatever the hell they want to about any idiot driver, whether it's a bubble-head on a cell phone or a dumb-ass biker trying to do stupid things in traffic. (soccer mom here) Gotta show off a picture I took yesterday of my child on the harley....lol. He's "Star of the Week" in his classroom, and he had to bring 5 pictures of himself to school....fun. I think what Dave might be talking about is riders do things sometimes that automobile drivers don't understand. A good example would be if I suddenly speed up, change lanes go around a carand then change lanes again. A car driver might see this as being reckless when in truth I may have felt that I needd to get in a position where I'm more visible. Or I might have looked to my right and seen someone doing something that distracted them and I felt I wanted to get away from their vehicle in case they veered into my lane. Riding a bike requires much more awareness and defensive driving that driving a car (as I'm sure you know).
Lindsey 0 #29 May 9, 2005 I'm sure you're right.... This thread started with a dead biker whose poor judgment endangered other people. Not only does a 700 lb bike travelling at 50 mph have the potential to harm people standing on the curb, but I don't care to see the outcome if I don't have to. Sure, soccer mom on the cell phone is usually as oblivious to riding as she is to skydiving. I don't think I'm exactly oblivious to either, but the point is legitimate. She may not know the difference between the rider showing off and the rider maneuvering to avoid the large obstacle that she just presented by pulling out without looking. BUT to treat other people on the road as though they are not affected by a biker's driving is not realistic. I see lots of people on bikes acting like damn fools, swerving in and out of traffic and going waaaay too fast. I have a right to comment when they act like damn fools around my car or my bike or my child on his bike riding down the road.... That's all I was saying....and I'd probably agree with what Dave was saying if it didn't strike me like it did. Peace~ linz

A few weeks ago I was riding with friends to the DZ, and there were a small group of sport bikes passing by. One of them did a wheelie in the lane next to us and zoomed ahead to join his buddies... I was thinking to myself "what a show-off"... then they all slowed down to 50 mph blocking the 2 left lanes and forced us to hit the brakes (we were on cruise control). n23x 0 #35 May 10, 2005 In the case you just posted, I'm gonna have to go ahead and say they deserved it. Now before you hop on the "not a rider trip", I am about to add a second bike to my collection, so nobody get huffy. As GravityMaster previously mentioned, yah, as bikers we have to do a lot to make ourselves as visible as possible, and keep an eye out for the latest numnuts who's looking to run us over. That means being a more agressive/defensive riding style. But if you're gonna be a wanker, and block all lanes of traffic with your buddies so you can get some cool video, you should probably get run over at least once. Same as people who don't pass in the left lane. .jim"Don't touch my fucking Easter eggs, I'll be back monday." ~JTFC

n23x 0 #40 May 11, 2005 Yah, they probably did deserve it. What the video didn't show was them probably driving like assholes for the last 10-15 minutes. Now, had this been a quick full lane show, and then clear a path, I might feel different. Most of the videos I've seen of bikers on the highway suggest otherwise. Act like a moron, get what you deserve. .jim"Don't touch my fucking Easter eggs, I'll be back monday." ~JTFC

You may think that it is outrageous, I don't. Further, they weren't block A lane of traffic, they were blocking ALL lanes of traffic. .jim"Don't touch my fucking Easter eggs, I'll be back monday." ~JTFC
kelpdiver 2 #46 May 11, 2005 stop pussy footing around. You're continuing to make the same statement - it's alright to kill someone on the road if they're a) in your opinion driving rudely, and b) you're in a position to hurt them. Because they were doing the speed limit, they deserved summary judgement. Nevermind that the penalty for failure to stay to the right is a $130 ticket - fuck, death is good too. n23x 0 #47 May 11, 2005 Boo hoo hoo. It's my opinion and I'll stand by it. In my eyes, I see it as not an intent to kill, but an intent to remove themselves from the situation. Let's examine the offensive drivers perspective: Does it: A: seem plausible that some average joe is driving down the highway, all lanes become blocked and he decides to take them out. or B: seem more plausible that after this group of bikers decided to "play" with this guy they think to themselves, let's slow him and everybody else down to 20-30 below the speed limit? You have no idea what these guys were doing before. But I have a good idea, for reasons which I will keep to myself. And if my good idea is correct, the guy deserved what he got. PM me if you want to unsuppress those feelings. .jim"Don't touch my fucking Easter eggs, I'll be back monday." ~JTFC
