riggerrob 643 #1 October 3, 2016 What type of pilot emergency parachute does your pilot wear? Which type of PEP fits best in which type of jump-plane? Does your pilot have any previous jumping experience? Has your pilot ever bailed out of an airplane in distress? Moderators: please add "Softie" and allow multiple answers. Thanks

sammielu 3 #5 October 3, 2016 My dz has Cessna 182's and a Cessna 208 grand caravan with some fancy efine upgrade. Pilots wear softie, back rigs with round canopies. None of them have had bail out experience. 4 of the 11 pilots I've worked with over the past 4 years did not have parachuting experience, the rest were licensed skydivers at some time or another. JerryBaumchen 1,364 #6 October 3, 2016 Hi Rob, There are three dzs close to me. Two use back packs with rounds that I built. I do not know what Ralph Hatley has for his pilots; probably a Softie. Two pilots have jump experience. Although all three dzs have multiple pilots. I have no idea of any of them ever bailing out. Jerry Baumchen
pchapman 279 #7 October 3, 2016 A DZ I've been at has a mix -- there's an old military backpack with a C-9 or something, there's an older pilot rig of some type, and there are a couple old retired '80s skydiver rigs with pillows in the main compartment and a round reserve. Basically whatever was available. In recent years they even get packed reasonably regularly!
DHemer 0 #8 October 4, 2016 Cessna 182 and 2016 All pilots at my DZ have some experience (even if it is just a few SL after they started working at the DZ) Not sure on the make of the rig but pretty sure it is a round.
