Democratic party in finacial trouble

Recommended Posts

Apparently the Democrats haven't paid their Social Security and payroll taxes. The IRS have put a lien for around $200k, but the party only has $98k.

The bookkeeper is taking the fall like a "good" soldier, however, what sort of example is the Democratic party trying to set? Not only is it ok to try to skip out on taxes, but its even better to not take responsibility for it but to simply blame someone further down in your chain of command.

Impressive guys, impressive.

Florida Democratic Party Bookkeeper Takes Blame For Tax Problems

POSTED: 5:03 pm EDT June 28, 2005

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A bookkeeper for the Florida Democratic Party took the blame Tuesday for the party's failure to pay its Social Security and payroll taxes, and said she never informed her boss, gubernatorial candidate Scott Maddox.

In a letter to Maddox, Debbie Griffin-Bruton said the pressure from her job along with burden of caring for a husband with Alzheimer's disease made it difficult for her to perform her duties.

"Due to my embarrassment over my mistakes I was reticent to let anyone know of my failures," she wrote. "I regret that at no time did I inform you of my mistakes."

The Internal Revenue Service slapped a lien on the party last week for about $200,000 owed in taxes from 2003. The party had only $98,000 in its bank account.

Maddox resigned as party chairman last month to run for governor. He hired Griffin-Bruton as the party's comptroller after being elected chairman in 2003.

"I must accept responsibility for having placed my faith in a person who clearly did not live up to my high expectations," Maddox said in a statement.

The party's financial problems have given Republicans a chance to criticize Maddox, who is hoping to succeed Republican Gov. Jeb Bush.

"Real leadership says, `You know, it is my fault. It happened on my watch,"' said Republican Party of Florida Executive Director Andy Palmer. "But to keep casting about for a scapegoat doesn't demonstrate real leadership."

Also seeking the Democratic nomination are Rep. Jim Davis and state Sen. Rod Smith. Republicans running include Attorney General Charlie Crist and Florida's chief financial officer, Tom Gallagher.

Bush cannot seek re-election because of term limits.

Management and leadership at it's best - right there in the FL DP! NOT!

No ideas. No cash. Oh dear me. Perhaps they want FL taxpayers to cover it for them?

That is just too funny.

The Dems, who love to tax others, didn't bother to PAY taxes themselves.......

I'm laughing so hard I'm crying.

Britain's Labour Party has been in financial difficulties all my life. Didn't stop them winning three consecutive elections.

You don't find it funny that the party known to like taxing didn't pay their own takes?

That kills me.

Oh, BTW, they lost the last two elections.;)

Let's just be clear on something. You might even agree with me.

Liberal does not equal Democrat
Democrat does not equal liberal
Conservative does not equal Republican
Republican does not equal conservative.
Liberal can apply to fiscal matters or social, or both.
Conservative can apply to fiscal matters, or social, or both.

I suspect YOU are liberal in a number of respects, just as I am conservative in a number of respects (especially fiscal).

Agreed, but you brought up a PARTY and how it won. In this case the PARTY that we were talking about also has lost the last two major elections.

Edit to add....PROVE I'm liberal:P

OK I am more liberal than most think in SOCIAL areas, but conservative as hell when it comes to money. When it comes down to fiscal/social...I stay on the fiscal side.
