With brute force by the police and the National Guard. The police have shut down the shelters at night so nobody gets out at night so a lot of the trouble makers will be kept inside. You may think differently if your neighborhood suddenly become such that tonight (not tomorrow night, but tonight) you could not go out after dark because others who have done so have been raped, mugged, and worse, by the "nice" refugees. How about if you had kids that you could no longer let go outside for fear of stray bullets. It is one thing to see the best in and be sympathetic for people, it is another to ignore reality. We have been sheltered from the reality of it for years. They are still plucking people off roofs, there are many unidentified dead literally floating around. Many people have died who normally may not have, and will continue to do so. I am by no means saying the conditions are acceptable, not by any means...I am saying, however, they could be worse and as hard as it may be to swallow THIS is what happens in these situations. I realize this does little to comfort many people. A couple of brothers here in NC are upset they can not bury their mother..she died in a nursing home and they evacuated the living, but had to leave the dead...and they are mad. I'm sorry, did YOU want to be the one to tell a living soul, sorry you have to stay we got to haul this body???? Did not think so. Nothing about this is ideal. If I hear one more news crew brag about how they can get close to the people, why cant aid get there...well here is a thought (and I am sure your ratings would skyrocket) YOU go get some food and water from where you 'know it is just down the road' and bring it to them. Hmm look at that now you are a hero with great ratings....havent seen that happen yet. Or how about carrying some of those people who were wading around back with you, share your food/water, what is stopping you media people? So quick to judge the efforts of others, but not giving any of your own. Nice, special place in 'heaven' for that behavior! Funny thing, every time they do a shot discussing the LACK of food and water, there is someone in the shot with sodas, gatorade, fritos, etc. And people are 'dying all over the place' well why do we keep seeing the same three bodies??? For all the horror we are being fed, there are worse fates played out in attics that we can't see. There are rescuers finding bodies that have just died when they arrived. They have rescued over 10,000 people off roofs, there are over 40,000 in the makeshift shelters that is the population of a good size city in itself!! My family lived four blocks from the Orange Bowl in 1980, when it was a primary shelter for many thousands of Cuban refugees following the Mariel Boat Lift.
