I think you should all breed faster. Someone needs to be paying for my Social Security when I start collecting.

Good point! I've been worried about how I'm going to afford jump tickets when I get to be an even older fogie than I already am....Steve1

But really, let's get back to the lady's hair...

>:(

:ph34r::ph34r::ph34r:

Can't let go, right?

This family is in our TV since several days: They seem to be like aliens... (Deep inside I have to confess: Hats off! They look pretty happy and found their own lifestyle.)

I had a close look to her hair: She's got a very long pony tail and the hair over (or combed back from) her fore head is a little bit old fashioned cut. But for what I know, men love long hair, so what? :P

I'm just playing. Honestly. :D

Her hair is FINE, really! I just liked the absurdity of focusing on that instead of the throng of offspring around her... :S :)

Jeez - some of the comments... I guess this is the place to be when you just can't take the world seriously enough!

you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

we wouldn't want such views as the voluntary human extinction movement being propegated

Tell us what other opposing viewpoints you'd like to see stifled :P I thought that was the ACLU thread.

Seriously, though. What exactly do you find objectionable about the view of living a long and happy life and not having children?

I thought that was obvious! Thank you for bringing levity to the SC. Love your humor, Rebecca! :D Although the hairstyle makes her resembles Davy Crockett in a dress, her husband doesn't seem to mind at all. Also, her family looks happy and healthy, so who are we to judge their lifestyle? (I'm not directing that at you, Rebecca, but I thought that I'd toss that out there.)

I feel that not only should people be allowed the right to choose whether or not they will have an abortion, but also allowed a choice as to whether or not they will continue to reproduce beyond the average sized family. While I strongly feel that I don't want to see the world over-populated, I would never force my beliefs on another. I actually think that if someone wants to have a larger family and is able to keep them healthy and happy, then that is their choice to make for themselves. Just like some people would never want children, and that is also just fine for them and their lifestyles. Neither decision is better than the other, and what makes one person disgusted or miserable could make another person feel like the luckiest person alive. The choice to procreate or not is highly personal. Everyone's idea of happiness is made up of different ingredients.

One thing that I would like add is that it would be wonderful to see more people, who want huge families, adopting children in need. If I ever have any children, it would probably be from adoption, not necessarily procreation. There are so many children that need families and need love.

Thanks Rosa!! It's nice to know you "get me" - and Davy Crockett in a dress is very apt!! :D:D

You're absolutely right about them looking very happy - frankly, the hair was the only thing I could pick on... :D

Sinker, they have been doing that for well over 20 years now. Once had a girl friend that had an abortion several years prior to us dating. She at one time wished she could be the one that died because she was overwhelmed with guilt for making what she knows for herself was a selfish choice. That decision has haunted her for many year but I believe she has come to forgiving herself and being a mother to two beutiful girls now in there early teens.

Yes, but the right to choose is not about getting abortions, it is about the mother´s right to take a decision regarding her own body.
As it has been pointed out many women are pro choice but would never get an abortion. They just don´t pretend to know what is best for other people.

yes and a damned good one

It's the picture, Sinker. It just doesn't look very supportive and therapist-like

Geez, dude....kinda touchy aren't we? I see you aren't into inane ribbing of any sort.
No shitty response intended there but your response does indicate something. Should I have included a :P or a ;) behind the :o?

16 kids is fine until overpopulation really hits us.

Just think, someday, if the population growth continues as is, the planet will not be able to support us and then what do you do? Limit growth, or hope that more people starve to death than are born for a long period of time.....but of course, those new kids will starve first.
My reality and yours are quite different.

-------typical response from thinking of people as mere numbers & more mouths to feed.

did it ever occur to you that a human being is more than just a "thing" that sucks up resources???

no, I thought not.

:D:D:DGeez, Speedy, where do you get that?...long, long stretch, eh?
Typical response from someone who doesn't understand what they read, skews words, puts words in one's mouth and has nothing to add to the discussion other than drivel.

Again, when the time comes what do you do?

yes, perhaps you should have put some sort of emoticon behind your shitty response, it would have mitigated my response... the way it was writing, I took it as an insult, if it wasn't meant that way, well, perhaps you should have communicated differently. If you would take the time to go back and read subsequent posts, Wendy commented (in typical reasonable, sensible, Wendy form) that perhaps your silly comment was related to the strange Pope Bean avatar I had then... my response back to her was much more apologetic about reacting w/ such ire towards you. Still, you should know of the potential for miscommunication on forums such as this and if you don't mean something insulting, then state it in a non-insulting way... otherwise, don't be so damned surprised when you get shit back. :P Also, if you've read ANY of my other posts in the past several weeks, you'd know that "inane ribbing" doesn't typically bother me at all. Just don't be a jerk to me and we'll be fine.

Your dooms-day scenario is very long from happening, so it is really isn't very worthwhile to think much about. Like I've said before, at our current output, our country has the ability to feed the entire world and the population of the world can easily fit in the state of Texas. We're far from overcrowded and we're far from starving to death. Now, if you want, we can talk about the unfair distribution of wealth, social injustice, and the REAL causes of starvation in this world, which have virtually NOTHING to do w/ people like this couple having 16 kids.

I thought about seriously criticizing you for your bigotry, lack of tolerence, etc., but after reading some of your other posts of late, I realize that doing so would be a colossal waste of time...

Of course. And an airplane is far more than an engine that sucks up fuel. But if you ignore your fuel state when you're flying your airplane you're still likely to crash, even if you are flying in the coolest, sleekest airplane in the world.

People need food and water to live. If you doubt this visit Sudan, or any other country where people are living in abject poverty. 20,000 people A DAY die of starvation in the world; that's six 9/11's a day. Ignorance of the food situation is how that comes to be.

its called an opinion... this section of the forum is for people to give their opinions.. that is mine... did you see me getting on my high horse and saying your opinion on this subject is wrong? can somebody only have an opinion on here as long as it just happens to coincide with yours?

i personally think somebody who comes out with religeous clap trap like that is some kind of fruit cake... thats MY opinion, you may have a different one, which you are free to air on here, just like i'm free to air mine...

oh, you are most certainly able to share your "opinion"... it just confirms what many of us already believe about you...:S

Well, I prefer a longer-term point of view. My kids and their descendants will be affected by what we do or not do today just as you and I are affected by what our ancestors did/didn't do to the planet in their day. I think it's worthwhile to think about our kids and later generations. 16 kids today will produce a lot more people a few generations down the road...you do the math.

Your short-term view just misses the point entirely

Hell...you can visit the US for that. After all, we have the highest rate of poverty in the western world. Fortunately though, we have programs in place to keep people from starving. A lot of people would like to get rid of those programs though, effectively turning us into a third world country that lets its people die in the streets.

You know, this causes angst. On the one hand, you don't want people starving, but on the other you don't want to have to support lazy good-for-nothings....where to draw the line? How do you weed out the good-for-nothings?
