Lewis Libby Indictment

Recommended Posts

" Answer from George W. Bush:
BUSH WILL RESTORE HONOR AND DIGNITY TO OVAL OFFICE
We need to look to the future

I want to look to the future, I believe a strong leader focuses on solving problems, not settling scores. However, I agree with the House's decision to impeach President Clinton and, based on the facts, I would've voted with the majority.

To date, President Clinton has maintained that he would not ask for a presidential pardon, and I take him at his word.

I want to usher in an era of personal responsibility, and that begins in the Oval Office. As President, I will restore honor and dignity to the White House, and set a new tone of respect and bipartisanship in Washington. It's time to put the days of scandal and partisan bickering behind us and work for the American people. It's time for a change.

Looking forward to hearing the results. No word on the status of Mrs. Wilson nee Plame's employment status with the CIA - overt or covert. The indictment is on perjury, obstruction of justice, and lying to FBI agents questioning him. If he did all of these things, I hope he's fined/sentenced accordingly.

A bit of perspective on this. Can anyone - without looking it up - name a previous Chief of Staff for any Vice President? I can't and doubt anyone else can either. Puts a bit of perspective on this comment: "The criminal indictments of a top White House official mark a sad day for America and another chapter in the Republicans' culture of corruption. At the heart of these indictments was the effort by the Bush Administration to discredit critics of its Iraq policy with reckless disregard for national security and the public trust," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California.

Once again, showing her intellect...or more apropos, that of her supporters.
:S

Looking forward to hearing more details on this. For all Dems just crowing, please do us a favor and compare and contrast this press interest vs. that w/Mr. Berger's recent conviction (note that conviction and indictment are two different things) for pilfering classified material from the archives and destroying it.

I have no idea what this means. You think because someone is not in the limelight, they are not important? :S

Nope never even read Moveon.org... I do get news from a wide variety of sources.. and for a President that promised honor and dignity I am very very disgusted..

But then again if the far right only gets its news from http://www.cofcc.org/ then
I can understand why so many here in this forum are so rabidly behind anything the far right does..

I was pointing out what an obscure position it really is. High ranking administration official indeed. I think not. Pelosi is a moron. Always has been.

We'll see if he's convicted. Perhaps he will be.

So, you just proved that your answer of no in this case was false. Just because someone is not in the news daily does not negate their importance. I would say the chief of staff of the second in command is pretty close to center.

But donwplay it all you want. Lord knows if this was Gore's chief of staff, you would probably be all over it. :S

And so would I.

This type of thing, no matter the side, is not very good.

What does Nancy Pelosi have to do with Libby's indictment? Nothing at all, but somehow you feel the need to say she is of inferior intellect. If that is what you need to do to make yourself feel better, more power to you. It is truly telling.

... or a deputy defense secretary, ... or a 'Chairman of the
Defense Policy Board Advisory Committee', etc

nevetheless, the names Libby, Wolfowitz, Perle, etc have been
well known long before to the Plame affair. At least to anyone
mildly interested in and familiar with the driving ideological
forces behind the Iraq War.

People are measured by their impact not their formal positions,
and these guys and their academic phantasies about new wold
orders etc had a massive impact on where this country is now.

Cheers, T

What I find retarded is that Fitzgerald stated in his press conference that he couldn't prove that Valerie Wilson's/Plame's identity was leaked. All he has are some allegedly conflicting time tables...essentially, a "who-said-what-to-whom-and-when".

I think that Libby's defense attorneys will be able to pick a lot of the indictment apart.

The process will see the truth I hope.

Telling of..what, exactly? If you think she's not an idiot, that's your opinion, you are most certainly welcome to it. My purpose in bringing her moronic remarks to light was to show how dumb the left and their reactions to this are. Think as you like. Matters not to me, I assure you.

Y'know, Vinny, you seem to spend an awful lot of time talking about how stupid people you disagree with are, and how little you care. Seems like a contradiction kinda.

Disagreeing with what you espouse doesn't make one stupid. Doesn't make one smart, either.

I don't know who Gore's Chief of Staff was and really don't care. If you do - good for you. If you think that not being in the limelight yet on the VP's staff precludes you from being insignificant - good for you. If you think that being in the limelight makes you significant - good for you. Think as you like. I know I do.

Looking forward to the trial. Just heard a nice clip of Mr. Fitzgerald commenting on the indictment. Never once did he state Ms. Plame was a covert agent in what I heard.

Mr. Libby has resigned - good for him. Perhaps his defense lawyers will get him off the hook. Perhaps not. If not, he'll be punished accordingly, I hope.

Telling in that you immediately resort to calling someone with no involvement an idiot. If the only defense you can provide is to call an uninvolved third party an idiot, maybe you should re-think who you are so blindly supporting. I would expect such responses from grade schoolers, but I would hope the discourse here would be much more enlightening.

This might be of equal relevance: Ronald Reagan ate jelly beans, so there!

C'mon guys, he was talking about Nancy Pelosi...she could be 100% removed from anything in Washington, and she opens her mouth and...well...she just ain't getting it... :S

I guess I should expect no less.
It would have been nice to just once debate substance instead of semantics.

I'll start:
As a former Marine, I find the outing of a CIA agent particularly unforgivable. I believe it is a betrayal of all the men and women who sacrifice immeasurably for this country and get so little in return. I think it shows a horrible disregard for our national security and the people working to provide it. I think, if proven guilty, Libby should be made a private and sent to Iraq and not be allowed to leave until the very last American soldier/sailor/airman/guardsman/Marine has safely returned to America and then he should be returned to the US and executed, which is basically the fate for which he is at least partly responsible for over 2000 American servicemen and women.

I agree with this statement completely.

What is being overlooked here is that the special prosecuter has not alleged that her ID was leaked. In fact, there is conjecture that her own husband may have revealed her identity long before Novak did, or his own op-ed piece in the New York Times.

I thought that was a given. There is no question that her identity was leaked. Even I know her name and what she did for a living. That was the entire reason for the investigation in the first place. I think what they could not or will not be able to prove is that her identity was revealed in a criminal manner.
I heard on the radio this morning sound bites from neighbors and friends. They all said they had been interviewed numerous times and one person (a neighbor) said she had known Valerie for over twenty years and often had dinner together and considered herself a good friend - or so she thought - and she had no idea until the story broke.
