Protesters at Soldiers funeral-

Recommended Posts

This story is sick. These SOB's had the balls to protest a fallen soldier at his funeral in front of his family and everybody. Just when I though people couldnt get any lower somthing like this happens.

Elkhart, IN - A memorial service was held Friday for Marine Major Gerald Bloomfield.

Major Bloomfield was a helicopter pilot who was shot down in Iraq on November 2.

He is a native of Ypsilanti, Michigan who married Elkhart native and Concord High School graduate Julie Gill.

Rick Hess, a family friend, says, “He met Julie down at a Purdue football game five or six years ago. They started dating and that brought him into our fold here in Elkhart.”

Major Bloomfield will be buried next Wednesday in Arlington National Cemetery. He is a Purple Heart recipient and will be laid to rest with a 21-gun salute.

Protestors
Protestors picketed outside of the funeral home during the memorial service for Major Bloomfield.

The same group has apparently done the same thing all across the nation. The extremist group feels anything bad that happens to the United States is because the country is tolerant of homosexuals. There were about seven people, both adults and children, who participated in the protest.

The protestors were drastically outnumbered by Elkhart area veterans. The veterans showed up to help keep the protest in check.

”It was a wonderful turnout. I can’t believe all the veterans that showed up here on Veterans Day to commemorate Gerry. I think the mission was accomplished. Everyone was contained far enough away that none of the family that were inside had to be exposed to the insanity that they purported with their posters and protest,” said Hess.

Elkhart veteran Dave Thornton says, “This is America, everybody is entitled to their opinion but to do it at a funeral, I'm sorry, is wrong.”

There was one arrest at the protest. A veteran faces a battery charge, for bumping into a protestor.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

Ah yes, Fred Phelps and his Westboro "Baptist Church."

Media whores, cloking hatred under the 1st Amendment-Friendly guise of Religion.

If the media would not cover them, they'd lose their fuel for further perversion of the Bible.
Illinois needs a CCW Law. NOW.

I didnt see where it said exactly who these people were. But the theorys they throw out sound pretty fucked up to me. I dont agree with the gay lifestyle but I dont go anywhere near the extreme these people do. But for them to protest a fallen soldiers funeral is beyond a discrace.

The good news is; this will go away. "Your Honor, we'd like a jury trial."
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

Exactly--- I am by no means a heavy church going person but I have my beliefs and they are mine. But when these people do something like this it gives everyone who say they are a religious a black eye. So many people will come out and say "see it's those crazzzzy bible thumpers" and thats not it at all. I just dont see how anyone can stoop to that level. It doesnt matter what side of the isle you sit on you have to admit this stinks. I personaly would never protest someone's funeral or loss of a family member even if I disagree with them.

Hee hee!! I wonder how hard the veteran bumped into the guy...maybe sent him to the hospital. B|
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

I was thinking the same thing. Hope he got a good lick in.

Do you actually believe in the 1st Amendment?

Do you believe it applies only to those whose opinions you agree with?

I think they need to be reminded that there is a bit of that "good book" they have left to read...

amen to that. If those people had been living back in Jesus' time, they would have been first in line to stone the adultress.

And they probably would have stoned Jesus for protecting her.

to bad He doesn't want us to stone THEM.

I totally support the first amendment. I also support the fundamental idea of treating others as you want to be treated. That is, if you are going to grossly disrespect the service of a fallen countryman, his/her family as they lay him/her to rest (which amounts to the equivalent to a kick in the nuts or teeth in my book), then expect a gross mistreatment in return.

The first amendment was not designed as a shield so that we could smear one another without respect. In this case it's plain-and-simple bad manners and utter disrespect.

Experssing an opinion, no matter how disagreeable, is not a good reason for assault and battery. Bad manners is STILL not an offense in the USA (if it were, we'd have to build a whole lot of new prisons)..

(And let's be clear, I find this protest to be highly disagreeable and the people who made it to be equally disagreeable)

In protesting at a soldier's funeral, these 7 protesters only accomplish making asses of themselves.

By sucking one of the soldier's friends/family members into violence, then they have accomplished more of their goal. Why not just ignore them and give them no scene to hide behind....

Believe it or not, we agree on this. I'm pointing out that I fully understand why someone might get hurt.

I place these protests on the same level as though that burn the flag, I hate both of them, but think both should have the right to do it. I also think those that do it, should make sure they have their asses covered, because while the law won't stop them, others might -- whether it's right or wrong.
