kallend 2,106 #26 December 9, 2005 QuoteThe Crusades were something very different. From its beginnings Christianity has always forbidden coerced conversion of any kind. Conversion by the sword, therefore, was not possible for Christianity. Unlike jihad, the purpose of the Crusades was neither to expand the Christian world nor to expand Christianity through forced conversions. A few thousand burnings and rackings just served pour encourager les autres eh?... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. pajarito 0 #27 December 9, 2005 QuoteGee, catholic.org saying the crusades were not that bad. I guess the books I read about the horrible atrocities committed by Christians during them were all wrong. Now, personally, I don't hold any christians today accountable but come on, they were not a good thing, even if most of them were failures. There is simply no reason to defend them or many other actions of the early church. A simple, 'that was stupid, glad we learned from that" will suffice. Never once said that Christians didn't commit attrocities during the Crusades. They did. So did the Muslims. Just refuted the notion that the Christians just suddenly came up with it in the name of conquest and conversions.

It had been par to of the system for some time. Opression and control was pretty much modus operandi. And as for the atrocities, the books I have read make the Christians were FAR worse in their actions than the Muslims. Once again, there really is not need to defend them. There was alot of stuipid shit that went down perpetrated by zealous church leaders. All we need to do is acknowledge it and move on instead of trying to make excuses for inexcusable behavior. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
