Is George Bush an idiot?

I'm sorry if this sounds ultra-ignorant but American politics isn't really my forte & I'm curious..

Over the last few years I've met loads & loads of Americans and just about every single one of them has something bad to say about George Bush (think he's incompetent or whatever).

So from where I'm looking, it seems like the vast majority of Americans dislike Bush. But obviously that's not the case since he got voted in for a second term. Why is it that he got voted in again? Is it simply because he was better when compared to the alternative, Kerry?

Or are there actually a large number of Americans that support Bush (take away the token 'I support him because we're both from Texas' people)? And if so, what are his policies that could make him favourable?

Kerry was a terrible candidate, his people prettty much ran his campaign into the ground. He had a plan that he kept talking about having but no one ever fould out what the plan was. I mean it was time to vote and i didn't have a clue what his plan was. I am a pretty big supporter of bush and think that he has done a good job given what he has had to deal with. Arguably on of the most tumultuous presidencies in recent history, Between 9/11 and the natural disasters he really hasn't had a chance to put his message out there, he has been too busy cleaning up these disaters.
Some would say that he is dumb or what not, but he is not a speaker, he has gotten much better since he came into office. It doesn't make him dumb everyone has had a teacher, generally a professor in college that was ridiculously smart, i am talking MENSA smart that couldn't speak their way into a cheese burger and fries at McDonalds. Now BEFORE the you attack me and say that i am calling Bush a Genius i am not, but i have long been a believer that it is not the president that determines the direction of the administration, but the people around him. A smart man always surrounds himself with people smarter than he. Bush does seem to do this as do most if not all presidents.
A final Poke at the left. (if clinton hadn't been so busy gettng head in the oval office MAYBE 9/11 could have been prevented, as he said in a public statment that he knew about osama and the potential for terrorism during his term, but didn't have time to get to that.)

No spying without a warrant? Ahem...

The whole excuse they are using now is a TOTAL and complete lie.. but you will support it no matter what.
Its very very simple. Since the law passed where it was required to go before the FISA there have been approximately 19,000 requests with 5 of them turned down....

Now.. let see.. They have 72 hours to get to the court for approval AFTER the wiretaps are already in place. ( OPPS LORD BUSH IS LYING AGAIN) Yall are claiming there is oversite??? I dont think so. This is as blatant as it gets. Did the Presidents men not go to the FISA court because they KNEW up front that most of THEIR current requests would be denied. I think they wanted to spy on all the people who did not agree with their policies, Just like the old NIXON Enemies list( Which is where most of the assholes Bush has put in power in his administration avoided the Vietnam war and got their training in fucking over the American people).
These people were spying on the IF YOU AINT WITH US YOU IS AGAINST US class of Americans.

In other words.. they spied on the Quakers and anyone else who did not support their plans to use faulty intelligence to get thousands of young americans killed in a war that did not need to be fought. They already had a perfectly good war that they had been invited to, but that was just not good enough. They told people back in the 1990's they were going to do everything they could to invade Iraq. It was personal ( That man tried to kill my Daddy)

AT that time ( Afghanistan the entire world was supporting us in our righteous indignation for the 9/11 attacks.
Because of this MONUMENTAL STRATEGIC BLUNDER into Iraq we have lost that support of MOST of the world. Why have we lost that support because this administration is acting like the BIG BULLY on the BLOCK and attacking where ever they decide to in contravention to ALL of the treaties we have signed for the last 60 years. Because of this it makes it harder to get the support we need from other countries to find and prosecute the people who wish to harm this country.

This ASSHOLE needs to be impeached for breaking REAL laws and for VERY UNAMERICAN ACTIVITIES.

Let me get this straight. You think that becuase he went to war, he is wrong? Do the elections in Iraq this week mean nothing to you? do you understand the implications of those elections? Are you blinded by your hatred of one man that you are unable to see the relative good that he has done? Why is it that liberals are so angry? I understand feeling angry at the actions of your country, but it is unamerican to say that you wouldn't fight for your country. And i don't really understand the statment that no bad would come from Iraq. I feel like Iraq has been a pain in the ass for a long time. Now we have Sadam out of Iraq and they are peaceful for the most part, they are haveing elections. You are going to say that our men and women are getting murdered, well to that i have to say they are but they are not dieing for nothing as you would want to say. They are helping to further freedom, something the people in iraq haven't known since Sadam took power. I say all these things with close friends in country right now as we speak. I am proud of them and what they are doing. They are proud of what theyr are doing. Why aren't you?!

November 20, 1775 - Continental Congress establishes a Committee to review intercepted
mail to determine who is authorized to conduct such operations.

umm...this was 12 years before the Constitution, and was the beginning of effectively a civil war/rebellion.

Because the USA is replete with ignorant rednecks whose idea of America is the gun, the flag, the church, and hating France. My guess is that these Americans you met were NOT in America; they were in your country or somewhere else. That's because the majority of rednecks have no desire to travel to places where people talk and look funny. Would probably explain why you haven't met many Bush supporters.

Quote

Is it simply because he was better when compared to the alternative, Kerry?

It's because Kerry sucks the big one. To give you an idea of just how badly he sucks, our f.cktard president won a second term.

Quote

Or are there actually a large number of Americans that support Bush (take away the token 'I support him because we're both from Texas' people)?

There is a large number of Americans that support this f.cktard president -- slightly over 50%. They relate to the stupidity and find it inspiring that a redneck like themselves can occupy the oval office.

Quote

what are his policies that could make him favourable?

He appeals to his supporters' idea of patriotism by exploiting issues that have no relevance in peoples' lives (gay marriage, for example) and by making war. Materially, there is no reason whatsoever for the majority of his supporters to support his policies since his economic policies benefit only the corporations and the rich.

Lets take this one point at a time.
We went to war to stop the Taliban and Al Queda.. you know the people who actually ATTACKED US????

The elections in Iraq mean nothing. its a prelude to a civil war that that would have happened one way or another. Instead we have put ourselves right in the middle of it. Sheer stupidity.

You guys on the far right( I know you love the ORWELLIAN NEWSPEAK) keep bringing up hatred. ( this is called projection since its you who exibits true hatred so much of the american bill of rights and our constitution) GET IT RIGHT I do not HATE GWB. I think he is an incompetent, arrogant man who is dishonest in his political life, his personal life and his religeous life.
Liberals... You guys LOVE this one.. In your usage it encmpasses ANYONE who is not in lockstep with the goosestepping Right wingers... BEWARE of the MIDDLE GROUND.. there is a vast group of people in this country who are centrist and do not follow the idealoges of the far LEFT or the FAR RIGHT.

NOW HEAR THIS I did 8 years in the USAF as a SERE Instructor. I served my country... and most of the BUTTSTAIN COWARDS in this administration were dodging the draft or found it inconvienient to serve their country at a time and place when they were needed.. WHY do so many of you on the FAR RIGHT have this UBBER PATRIOTIC need to label anyone who does not support the FACIST AGENDA as being unpatriotic.. yet so many of them have NEVER ACTUALLY SERVED.

I think anyone who actually HAS served is a bit more reticent to send our young people off on foreign adventures than those that only got thier patriotism from movies.

The only thing that Iraq has done is shock and awe the rest of the world into believing we can no longer be trusted to be the leader of the free world.

I for one support our people who ARE SERVING... but blindly sending them off for personal gain of the presidents administrations friends and cronies is WRONG. Why are you supporting all the LIES...

OK, you've convinced me, the USA is NOT great after all. It just talks a good talk but doesn't walk the walk.

Sorry you feel that way. Have fun in Canada. :)
Jeff

Until your post I though the USA was better than the Bush administration makes it look. In fact, your examples are all anomalies.

It's good that you can laugh about about your nation being one that spies on its own citizens, operates secret prisons, arrests citizens without charge, admits to torturing prisoners, ignores its own Bill of Rights, and invades other countries that are not a threat. On thinking about it, aren't they the exact things we accused Saddam of doing?

I think the Bush administration is the anomaly, and hope that it is a short term one.

Yes... that damn Constitution. We have the French and Spanish (now THAT'S ironic! :D) to blame for helping us defeat the British!

Obviously they're not going to make the same 'mistake' twice; they're sitting this one out... odd how they thought it was ok to go to war back then, but not now. [:/]

Seems there are ALOT of 'anomolies' in our nations history... I just picked a couple from around the birth of our nation. Do some research on Presidential Directives (most are classified); our current president is an angel! :):)

Yes, I'm very proud of my country, before, during, and after the Bush administration. I wouldn't live anywhere else. You, Democrats, and the media can try to paint a picture of corruption and doom all you like. I'm sorry you see it that way.

Do you really think this is the first time the CIA has had involvement in 'snatches'? Is this really the first time the US has 'tortured' to get information? :D Please... people didn't just come up with this stuff over the past couple years. Unfortunately previous administrations have done a better job of covering it up. Funny how you think they were the 'honest' ones. :S

Kallend's posting clearly referenced the Bill of Rights.

I find 1775 pretty irrelevent to American notions of freedoms since at the time we were 13 colonies of the King. The Colonials couldn't violate rights of American citizens when there was not yet a country for the people to be citizens thereof.

And you right wingers.... so you think supporting facists no matter what they do is ok???

I would think it's American to point out things our country is doing wrong, that does not support the ideals we hold out to the world. I want the world to look up to us as a country that LIVES its ideals rather than paying it lip service and thereby hurting those ideals with underhanded corruption that hurts us in the eyes of the world.
But go ahead.. rubber stamp the corruption.... that seems to be the way it is with the right wing. And pointing it out is painted as unpatriotic. Hell I think its patriotic to actually serve my constitution, my bill of rights and my country rather than to just serve myself.

They should never have been sent there in the first place. We had Saddam bottled up and he was an ineffective despot in his own teapot. NOW since the President PROMISED in the 2000 elections NOT TO GO NATIONBUILDING...( gee another lie) 2000+ of our sons and daughters and brothers and wives and husbands have died..... yeah we are there but it was a VERY BAD MOVE to go in the first place. IT has destroyed ALL of the good will we had with MOST OF THE WORLD we had from the attacks on 9/11...... thereby insuring THOUNSANDS more will die in the Middle East that did not need to die. I have a few friends there as well. I think they would rather be at home with their families rather than nationbuilding in the sandbox.
STAY THE COURSE... yeah right... the course was set erroneously in the first place by greedy cowards who have much to gain.... but not from saving the world from Sadaam.. but by the oil deals they were hoping for.

How many of the Neo Cons personal fortunes are doing VERY NICELY off this war.
Bush's family holdings... definitely not suffered... Cheney's ties with Hallibutron.. you know the company that keeps cooking the books is swilling in corruption.... Bet his stake in the company is not doing badly either...... FOLLOW THE MONEY.. is what the man said... in a former fascist administration that had enemies everywhere that needed to be spyed upon. That is where a whole bunch of these same people learned their tradecraft... in the Nixon Administration.. and they are still just as corrupt.

I will defer to your VASTLY more intimate knowledge of being fascist, I mean the Argentinians have been SOOOO GOOD at it for so long.

I love how you continually take a jab at the Brits on hereB|... I mean get over it already, Your fascist government did that whole preemptive invasion into the Falklands.. and you got your asses kicked ( no.. make that HUMILIATED) for it.

I am still waiting for you to actually join a service component that would let you get in the action and get some of them ragheads you so disdain. I mean you should do something to earn your citizenship via the military enlistment thing.
