God is punishing America, according to Phelps-Roper.
“America is doomed,” she said. “We have cracked the Bible. We know.”

Maybe Bill can investigate their Bible cracking methods and debunk them.

It's what the crypto guys do.

TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.

just shows how fucked America is with religeous nut cases

I used to be a coal miner, so i sympathise with their plight... but what really made me laugh when i saw it on the news was the families of the miners all bursting out in song to the lord when they heard news the miners where alive !!!!!!!!!!

can't they do anything in life without mentioning god? what a "bunch" of 'tards

Everything must be associated to god for the religous freaks... if they have a nice meal, they thank god for it. If they stub their toe it was gods punishment for doing something bad

God has to be thanked and mentioned at every opportunity... roll on the floor laughing my fooking arse off :D

Not funny, Ian.

They're entitled to what they believe, as much as you are. As long as they're not in your face, you have no gripe.

I know a minister who lived his faith. When his child ran out into traffic and was hit by a car, the first thing he said was "Praise the Lord." He believed that God would give him no more than he could handle, and that whatever happened, good or bad, was God's will and for a reason.

All in all, in a choice between that and sneering at everything, I would choose those who thank God for everything, even if it doesn't happen to be my belief.

I don't agree that it's okay to get in someone's face and preach at them. But that's not what you're describing.

Yeah, well, count me crazy, Ian, because I believe it too. I just don't happen to believe it has anything to do with the Judeo-Christian God.

But as I mentioned earlier in the thread, I lived in Buckhannon for three years, and I made friends with the folk of the town, even though I was a student, and the town and the college didn't much mix.

There's no doubt that they were mostly devout Christians, but they were good people, and they were kind to me. Making fun of them in a time of pain and suffering doesn't sit very well with me, and I wish you would put a lid on it.

I used to live in Topeka, where the WBC and this group are located. The Phelps do what they do because they get attention.

Actually, Ian is not as much different from them as he thinks he is.

I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

With a little work, that could be a sig.

The difference between these guys and jokers like Pat Robertson and Rick Santorum is whisker-thin. In a twisted way, I'm almost glad that people like them and Robertson and Santorum do what they do. Every soul they outrage is one more potential vote in the ballot box for the good guys.

Pretty poorly-written article, IMHO. The writer doesn't get around to explaining who the WBC is until 2/3 of the way down.

anyway, re. WBC: my guess is that these guys are a bunch of repressed homos themselves. why else would they be so obsessed with gays all the time?

according to the article, this is the way they make their living: They act as obnoxious and offensive as possible so that someone will hit them. Then they sue. The whole thing is just a big con game.
