Bin Laden threat

I was just wondering if anyone here is scared that they may end up involved in a terrorist attack. Disregarding those of you that are in high profile jobs that would put them at risk, I am talking about just us everyday people. When we are threatened with a looming attack does that make you nervous?

Isn't that a strange question to ask a bunch of people who voluntarily jump out of airplanes?

It doesn’t make me nervous. However, since I happened to have been evacuated from my former office building on 9/11 due to fears the Sears Tower might fall into our building I have realized that I’ve become noticeably more _aware_ when the monthly tests of Chicago’s emergency sirens are sounded. ;)

"Mare" Daley's greatest fear that some terrorist in a Cessna 152 will take out the Sears Tower has been greatly reduced since he bulldozed Miegs Field.

You still need to worry about terrorists firing model rockets at you from Grant Park.

Nice:)

I now remembered why I don't hang out in SC.

Like, dude, wow... Just... wow...

DUDE - Just adding balance. C'mon - Al is a micromanager, kinda creepy, control freak, a bit mechanical.....

(not saying we are any better off, one politican isn't any better than another)

C'MON DUUUUUUDE - If you can't handle the kitchen (SC) good thing you don't stick around.

(it always amazes me how many people take tongue in cheek little gags seriously - politics is such a pissy and unimportant thing in the 'real' world.)

...
Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

I bet Hans Weinerschnizel worried about the same things: way of life – bank, food, job, medical care, etc... back in 1933. If the enemy could burn down Reichstag then nobody was safe. Hans probably said, "I don't necessarily 'agree' with what they are doing, but if it will make Germany a safer place then I'm OK with it."

So you believe that radical Islamicists weren’t responsible for 9/11, instead the Administration staged the attacks. Was the Mossad complicit? :|

I don't believe in any grandios Michael Moorish conspiricy theory that anyone other than radical Islamic Terrorists were responsible for 9/11.

The point of the Reichstag analogy is not focusing on the cause of the disaster, but rather the reaction to the disaster and subsequent loss of freedoms. Many historians don't know or care who started the Reichstag fire in 1933, at this point it is irrelevent whether the Nazis, Communists, or some other group started the fire, it resulted in a government sponsored state of terror which the Nazi party used chip away at the German constitution and the German people's civil liberties all for the sake of security.

When Daniel wrote his portion of the scriptures, ( about 500+ B.C.), Iraq,Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia were not known by those names, but by Media and persia which included the entire region .

Daniel therefore could not have written about those countries by the names which they are known today, and so God gave Daniel metaphorical names to use, which in the end times could be related to certain nations .

Daniel DID NOT know or understand the meaning of what he was inspired to write, ( See Daniel 7:15, 28, : 8:27, 12:8-9-10, 13 ), perhaps mainly because he was unable to identify the nations who had not been named as they are today. He told many of his associates at the time of his vision, but no one understood it.

As for the many people who have predicted the end of the world and the coming of Christ, which has not taken place as yet, they clearly did not understand the scriptures.

"Knowing this first, that there shall come in the LAST DAYS, scoffers ( such as are ound on DZ.Com, ) walking after their own lusts (disbeliefs).

And saying, Where is the promise of His (Christ's) coming? for since our fathers fell asleep (DIED), all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.

For this they willingly are ignorant of,

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
( 2nd Peter 3:3-4-5-9 )

well "Iraq" didn't exist, but the Babylonian Empire did.

As did the empires that came after it, all foretold in the Book of Daniel: The Median Empire (represented by a bear, symbolizing its destructive nature), The Persian Empire (a leopard, representing the swiftness with which Cyrus established the empire), and the Hellenistic (Greek) Empire (the fourth beast which had ten horns) founded by Alexander the Great.

The Greek Empire is given particular attention in the Book of Daniel. There were ten kings in succession who ruled over the empire founded by Alexander. (ten "horns" in the book of Daniel)

Antiochus IV Epiphanes (originally named Mithradates) was the worst of them. He usurped the throne in 175 BC (this is the "little horn" which it says in the Book of Daniel, that three other horns were removed to make room for)

Interesting story behind that:

from Wikipedia:

Quote

Antiochus IV Epiphanes (Επιφανής, Greek: Manifest) (c. 215–163 BC, reigned 175–163 BC), was a ruler of the Hellenistic Seleucid Empire, He was originally named Mithradates, but renamed Antiochus either upon his ascension or after the death of his elder brother Antiochus. He was a son of Antiochus III the Great and brother of Seleucus IV Philopator.

Antiochus took power after the death of Seleucus Philopator. He had been hostage in Rome following the peace of Apamea in 188 BC but had recently been exchanged for the son and rightful heir of Seleucus IV, the later Demetrius I Soter. Taking advantage of this situation, Antiochus was able to proclaim himself as co-regent with another of Seleucus' sons, the infant Antiochus, whose murder he orchestrated a few years later.

Daniel 7:20 :[20] And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.

The three horns that fell to make room for Antiochus IV Epiphanes were Antiochus IV's father, his brother (the rightful heir whose throne he usurped) and his nephew (the son of his brother who was next in line, and whose murder Antiochus IV orchestrated)

The reason Antiochus IV Epiphanes was so significant is that he enacted a program, for approximately 3 1/2 years , to stamp out the religion and culture of the Jews and get them to adopt Helenistic (Greek) culture.
