brierebecca 0 #378 February 24, 2006 QuoteBullshit. It is just a DAY, period. It's not a specific "day" until it is labelled as such. This "gay day" should have been shot down as fast as a "Boogie for Christ" would be at most dz's. Then we would have true equality. I'm surprised at your argument, Chris. I remember, not too long ago, defending women's events at nationals with you on dropzone.com. It's not about equality. It's about encouraging groups to embrace their common traits. I don't see you bashing Chicks Rock for the same reasons. That boogie accomplishes the same thing: it encourages women to get empowered and to jump with eachother. That said, I'm still available for hugs whenever we're in the same vicinity. Brie"Ive seen you hump air, hump the floor of the plane, and hump legs. No one can claim that gays are denied the right to skydive, and so must descend (heehee) on a dropzone en masse in order to assert their rights. This is not the same as being told you are not allowed to vote (which was a women's rights issue but as far as I know was never a gay rights issue), or not allowed to hold certain employment. Gays and women both are protected against having those rights denied to them, as are we all. What gays are not entitled to is to have everybody like them and accept their homosexuality. Or do you want people forced to do those things? --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

As you say, they are evidently quite well accepted. I thought people were saying that this was a good idea because gay people aren't able to feel comfortable flirting on the 364 other "straight" days at the dropzone... (Naturally, I don't agree that there is anything "straight" about the other days at the DZ; but to hear people tell it, gays are SOL for being welcome unless they make a special event just for them -- to which everyone who might normally show up is just as welcome to be there anyway, like on any other day.) --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... freakyrat 1 #386 February 25, 2006 Jeffrey This Boogie started out from a small Yahoo Newsgroup of gay and lesbian skydivers when several members proposed a little skydiving get together. It was proposed to maybe hold this boogie in conjunction with the 2006 World Gay Games Olympic style sporting event. The 2006 games were originally planned for Montreal. A squabble took place among the Gay Games organization and some of the group split off and formed the World Out Games in Montreal and the original World Federation Of Gay Games will hold their event in Chicago. Over 10,000 athletes are registered for the Montreal games and maybe a little over half that for Chicago's event. From what I understand, Nouvel Air (The DZ in Montreal) was going to have a tandem jumping concession set up during this sports event. Nouvel Air is also going to have a Super-Otter for the summer. The group put out a poll to see where the group wanted to get together for a boogie weekend. Canadian jumper Mark Rejohn proposed that the group come up to Canada and jump the weekend of this sporting event and took the bull by the horns and put a little organization into a small friendly get-together that seems to be growing into a much larger event. freakyrat 1 #387 February 25, 2006 Hey Bill What about a Pink Floyd Dark Side Of the Moon Shirt with the rainbow prism on it? Rainbow Canopies were a thing in Skydiving way before some gay flag symbol. Heck, I have a Stiletto that is a mixture of BBY/MAG/JAD/WAT/LEM and LGR with LEM ribs that one of the lesbian skydivers called a fruit salad. It's colorful and sure beats some of the boring colors I've seen at boogies in Rantoul/Quincy etc. Chris
freakyrat 1 #388 February 25, 2006 Not everyone believes the same way you do. Yes, the rainbow has been "co-opted." Of course, the swastika as been ruined, and the cross has a rather limited set of meanings. I can't even put a little chrome outline of a fish on my car without people "knowing" what it means. It could just mean I like to fish. WTF should the homosexual population not get to stomp all over some image just like everyone else? As a by-the-by, I'm not a homosexual; I'm happily involved in a monogamous relationship, and I have a son who loves me. I just think it sucks that's it's OK to make fudge-packer jokes around the dz, and not breeder jokes. Yes, every day at the DZ is a straight-white-male day. All it takes is not being a straight white male for it to be pretty frikkin' obvious. I don't think that the conversation at baby showers specifically excludes men, but I find damn few of them there -- maybe that's somewhere that women rule. Wendy W. Well said Wendy. A_Hansen 0 #397 February 26, 2006 Well there we go, I have to say that just the fact that this "Gay Day" issue has already spoken for it self, why GAY DAY boogie, why a boggie for gay people? Well to me this is very simple, and Jeffrey, how peaceful you are Im not sure, but there is a big need for a gay boogie. I have been in this sport for 5 years and been to many dropzones in europe and America, and very rearly you find gay men or women, one of the biggest reasons is because this sport is very straight and even if most skydivers are open minded people, they still have their limitations when it comes to more detailed differences such as homosexiuality. and even if this sport is pretty straight it doesn't mean that tere are no gay people in it. I have heard many times my self, that I am okey as a gay man because I don't act gay, or I don't look gay, or because people never see me with another man, Im not in peoples faces with me sexiuality, those are the responds I get, and you know what, I don't find too much of a support from my fellow skydiver if I can not be who I want in front of them,. To be honest, we need a gay boogie to bring up the subject, there are so many people on dropzones, and then mostly men as far as I know that have a real issue of being true about their sexiuality on dropzoens because of fear of rejection, most women have it easier since most men love seeing 2 women together, making out is a bonus. most predjudice is coming from men towards men, I bealive if we bring up the subject more, keep talking about it and getting people together like that, we make it much easier for our fellow gay, bisexual, skydiers that want in most cases to be out on dropzones. America unfortunetaly is couple of steps behind Europe in those matters (Gay rights ingeneral) but I think it is time for a change and for us in the gay community also to meet each other instead of chatting to each other on rainbow skydiver on yahoo groups, most of us dont know who each other are even if we meet on dropzones I really think this is a great thing to have a gayday boogie, and it is not limited for gay people, everyone is welcome, as long if you are aware of that people might look gay or act gay, and who knows, you might see 2 girls or 2 guys make out under any sircumstances and that should be completely ok
