Why is there a need for a "gay day" for skydiving? Or any other kind of "day"?

Recommended Posts

In some skydiving mags (well, one) there where a few sections on women's achievments, I didn't see any men's, but I suppose that is because there are less women jumpers than men? So, perhaps, they (DZs, unions/associations) are simply trying to encourage women to come and jump?

Jeffrey,

Why the flying hell does it matter to you? How on earth does a gay boogie affect you? Either go and have fun, or don't go and shut up about it.

Thweetie. :|

Oh boy, are you gonna get shit for this.

This should be good.

I would LOVE to see an actual answer to "How does a gay boogie affect you". Mind you I said actual.

you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

>>That really is not the reason I go to the dropzone. I go to the dropzone to skydive. <<

No. And it's likely not the reason that most gay skydivers go to the dz either. In fact, in most cases it's not even an option.

>>If there's the chance to flirt, I may take it, I may leave it. I certainly won't do a bunch of jumps and then go home lamenting that I couldn't get any flirting done at a place where I go to skydive. <<

Here is a chance to flirt without fear of offending anyone. And I bet nobody goes home from the boogie lamenting that they didn't get any flirting done.

Jeffery, have you ever been laid at a boogie? Ever made out or hooked up with anyone.

I know I'm only addressing one "Pro" of this boogie, but it will be interesting to see why this bugs you so much. I really don't understand how your mind works. Help me out here.

>Does a gay man skydive differently from a straight man?

We were not talking about the same thing you are, and you know it. Geez, give it up already.

Bill,

Not really true. People from Kate Cooper to Brian Germain have noticed that women have unique issues when it comes to skydiving. Fallrate, weight distribution and wing loading are just a few of them.

He said ONE'S SEXUALITY, and you responded by talking about GENDER.

Who was off the mark? You do understand the difference between "sexuality" and "gender," right?

Bill? Nah, he's one of our special kids. He doesn't understand superfine distinctions like that. :|

Like I care?

It just means you don't remember the movie that was from well enough. Not my problem, nor my concern.

Um, I've seen Something About Mary many many times. So has everyone.

I was being sarcastic about your "you DO know the difference, don't you?" quip. It's rude. Besides, it undermines your point and makes others less inclined to give you any cred.

Are you going to answer my question?

I did not say that it did, now did I?

I just said that I don't see the reason for it, and I think that it is less positive than it is negative (because it pays attention to differences that we really ought to allow to be background nothingness).

Really, when did I challenge whether it should be done based on how it would "affect me"?

I have to get going to be ready for work. See ya.

Don't wait up for me. I won't be back on probably til late tonight.

Nope, haven't seen it yet . Does that mean I can be deliberately obtuse?

I think we need a "just for guys" boogie. They can talk about jock itch without being scared that girls won't want to go to bed with them.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

It was just a straightforward question, not a challenge to your challenge.

It MUST affect you somehow. This focus on differences that a specialty boogie fosters is of concern to you, right? Otherwise, why bother with the thread?

Have you noticed the negative impact of these boogies on others who feel their differences have now been highlighted? Have you ever felt excluded at a boogie? Have you ever been to ANY boogie where you felt uncomfortable because none of the jumpers shared anything in common with you (other than the obvious)?

It's just you're putting so much energy into your position that I'm trying to get a feel for where you're coming from.

Saying that "it must affect Jeffrey somehow" means you are ignoring the fact that I sometimes get into these frays because I kinda enjoy the debate and the back-and-forth. It's like when your dog grips the rope chew toy and snaps his head back and forth while you hold it tight. He and you both know that he's not breaking the neck of a rabbit, but it's fun for him and a little fun for you, too.

How can you see the amount of debating I do here and then insist that I must be affected by something before I'll expound on my opinions on it?

I don't consider myself affected by the gay boogie. I was just asking (and by way of asking, expressing my opinions about) why it's deemed to be necessary.
