cloudseeker2001 0 #1 February 26, 2006 America you are Suuuuuckers!!!!!!!! Looks like GWB and Friends are going to make 7 BILLION bucks on the port deal....yea, everyone knows about this deal.......... Why not just give the arabs a set of keys to NORAD and the chained brief cases with all the secret codes! That would be so much easier and a much faster way to compromise our safety!......Oh but wait, we would be screwing GWB and friends out of MONEY!!!!!!! I seem to remember the sale of billions of dollars of super computers and other assortments of high technology to China by GWB Sr......like father, like son..........or really, the son is just a talking head, Dad is still making the deals! America, you suckers! "Some call it heavenly in it's brilliance, others mean and rueful of the western dream"
ViperPilot 0 #2 February 26, 2006 Well first of all, the company taking over has been operating ports forever, not to mention several members of the leadership are American. And, the Coast Guard and US Customs will still have control over security. So really, it's a matter of economics and has little to do w/ security. A foreign company may run and operate the port, but that doesn't mean they can do whatever the hell they want. We'll still control security and have Americans working for and helping run the company. This is just another stupid thing that gets uniformed people's panties into a bunch.

unformed 0 #4 February 26, 2006 Don't worry. Our security will still be just as useless as it was before the arabs bought it.This ad space for sale.
ViperPilot 0 #5 February 26, 2006 Yeah, and how is our security compared to say, the majority of the world's countries? Think about it...
GTAVercetti 0 #6 February 26, 2006 QuoteDon't worry. Our security will still be just as useless as it was before the arabs bought it. The best post of this short little thread. Our port security is pretty horrendous, with or without the UAE.Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
ViperPilot 0 #7 February 27, 2006 Well if he was refering to soley port security, then yeah, it's a fuckin joke. But as a whole, our security is a hell of a lot better than most countries. I think I read something a while ago where they check (for bombs, drugs, etc.) less than 10% of containers that come into US ports. That's just ridiculous. The whole port system is a giant hole, for sure. But just because I don't want this to be a "let's agree and hold hands lovefest:" Dude, ALOT of things are better here than other countries. That does not make them necessarily good. Falling back the line, "well, others are worse" is usually a very weak excuse. If we are operating at say 20% secure and other are going at 5%, the comparison shows little except that no one is secure. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. rushmc 23 #9 February 27, 2006 ahh, the UAE is buying the port operations from the Brits. About 10% of all cargo gets inspected, combined with an arabic country shuffling the paperwork...........Sounds like a damn good AQ long term plan to me! I guess it takes the uninformed to make that connection! Hey, how about this????? Why don't we sell all the management deeds to a private Mexican company and they can be in charge the entire Mexican/US border......But not to worry, we will still have control of the Boarder Patrol......Sleep tight America. ViperPilot 0 #14 February 27, 2006 Well shit, w/ 10% being inspected, it doesn't matter who's running the damn port...we could even have a reality show where Donald Trump picks the lucky winner to run the port themselves. It doesn't matter b/c only 10% get inspected now, which means AQ can easily get crap in. W/ those odds, they'll only lose 10% of it. Our security plan at ports needs to be fixed, not who's running them (economically).
