redrocka 0 #1 February 27, 2006 Ooh, ooh, I got a question... Why in the hell is this matter in front of the Senate Armed Services Committee? How about the Committee on Foreign Relations, the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, the Committee on Environment and Public Works, or... call me crazy here... the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs... (and this last sounds like the most appropriate considering the charges being leveled at the Bush administration...) perhaps... maybe I'm a nutty bastard, it's because senator clinton isn't on any of the more appropriate committee's... A - this 'issue' is being inflated by populist politicians in hopes of beating votes out of the uneducated. B - this is an unavoidable example of the other side of gerrymandering... and the worse side. The mainstream media is asking all the wrong questions regarding the 'UAE ports deal'... IE why the F U C K is the Armed Services committee hearing this matter? We badly need to reign in our politicians. There is no logical reason why the Armed Services committee ought to be holding hearings on a commerce matter... if this matter is deemed to have major implications on national security then it should be referred to Homeland Security... or several other committee's that logically would rank before Armed Services... I find it quite tragic that our democracy, the model for the rest of the planet, has been struck so low... populism is an ugly thing. Sorry for the rant. Sweet Gravity... rehmwa 2 #2 February 27, 2006 One of the better posts on the subject. No one comments because it doesn't really bash either party though. Copy this into the other post, mention how Clinton lied under oath and that you think GWB is cashing in from his Saudi buddies and you'll make a lot of friends. or at least get more replies. But a simple statement that this is a delegated decision to highly place leaders in the commerce dept and the whole thing is a political PR fest on what'll be determined to be a non-issue, and no one wants to hear any of that nonsense. What's the fun if you can't can't spun up? ... warpedskydiver 0 #3 February 27, 2006 Nobody wants to reply because the data cannot be disputed...of course they will say it has something to do with the war in Iraq or the Bush family having control over the entire world like Dr. Evil. BTW I really resent that attitude because I look like Dr. Evil, and I want to control the world... muahhaamuahhaa hehehehe BTW I am redecorating my evil lair down at SDC this spring....I am looking for a "LASER" for my lair or a "DEATH RAY" would be equally nice! oh and I need some "EVIL" hotties, any ladies who are interested please apply...the "AUDITION" will take no more than 4hrs. billvon 2,989 #4 February 27, 2006 >if this matter is deemed to have major implications on national >security then it should be referred to Homeland Security... I agree. This has gone from a tempest in a teapot to a hurricane in a thimble. There _may_ be risks to our security by using such a state-run company; the DHS is probably the best organization to determine whether or not that is the case. billvon 2,989 #7 February 27, 2006 >I thought DHS did aprove this? The Committee on Foreign Investments did. The head of the DHS didn't know about it until he read about it in the paper; heck, neither did GWB or Rumsfeld. ------------------ QUESTION: Are you confident that any problems with security — from what you know, are you confident that any problems with security would not be greater with a UAE company running this than an American company? RUMSFELD: I am reluctant to make judgments based on the minimal amount of information I have because I just heard about this over the weekend. ----------------- Now, Rumsfeld is ON the CFI, so it leads me to think that perhaps this wasn't discussed very much. So an additional review by the DHS would seem to be a good idea.
warpedskydiver 0 #8 February 27, 2006 like anything else the ports or airportts or anything else can and will be infiltrated ...the shipping containers are all RFID and computerized, so the mere fact is that the same people will be doing the work, only the ownership of the company has changed. billvon 2,989 #9 February 27, 2006 >the shipping containers are all RFID and computerized. . . Uh, dude, most of them aren't even CHECKED much less RFID'ed. A terrorist organization could put a container on board a ship and no one would know until it was unloaded in LA.
