bazelos 0 #1 March 1, 2006 So this is women's week in our university, the weekly "newspaper" says how this is the time to celebrate all that women have contributed to the society. My question is why? Do we have a men's week where we talk about all the things that men have done? What's the point? He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man. swedishcelt 0 #3 March 1, 2006 Um. Haven't you read a history book lately? Men are celebrated disproportionately already. The balance is historically way out of whack. It's about time it was shifted a little. You'll survive it. It's only a week.

My question is why? Do we have a men's week where we talk about all the things that men have done? What's the point? The point is that there are a lot of very bitter and angry women who feel they have been treated unfairly and have turned into crusaders. I can't say that I entirely disagree with them but yes, it would be really nice to see people overcome their bitterness and anger and simply be the people they want to be without screaming to the world about how right they are and how very wrong everyone else is. By the way, I'm not picking on women here. There's a whole lot of other groups to which this applies. edited to add: I personally think the women of the world should be celebrated every day. Having some BS women's week is a joke. I guess I should also add that I really don't much give a fuck about men or their place in history or anything else. We just aren't all that fascinating to me. bazelos 0 #6 March 1, 2006 I agree with you, there's no reason to have special weeks for people that want to be considered equal, take this, I work at a bar and next week we will be giving cheaper drinks to chicks because they ged paid less than men, aparently it's around 17%. I have no idea where that comes, I get paid £5.40ish an hour, so do my female barmates, I have yet to see a detailed report on how a girl that has the same background knowledge, same skills and same tasks with a guy in a company gets paid less than him. I am not in any way ditching girls, I just don't understand the reason for such a week to exist. He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man. RhondaLea 4 #15 March 1, 2006 Things have changed a lot in the last 30 years, but I grew up during a time when women stayed home and men went to work. Men also ran the world. Women made life comfortable for men and reared their children. I don't think the change came about because of "a lot of bitter and angry women" but because of a lot of thoughtful women who had a vision of something better for their daughters. The pendulum always swings--hard--before it comes back to center. It's just human nature, and it happens every time the privilege of a group is challenged by a group not so privileged. And, too, there are always radical, vehement people in such groups with ideas that are out on the fringe, but they generally do not reflect the consensus of the main body of the group. Mostly they just serve as a bad example for the vehement radicals on the opposing side to point to as "all that is wrong with ________ today." rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. lisamariewillbe 1 #21 March 1, 2006 QuoteIf the traditional roles get reversed that would rock. I see more and more where the parent with the better job works and sometimes it is the man. The man does the "Mr. Mom" thing. Sometimes people dont accept it but to me its all in a matter of what the family wants and what is best for them. If a parent can stay home then its worth the lose in income. That being said, being a at home parent when done right, is the HARDEST job anyone man, or woman can do. Its also the most rewarding. Except for maybe finding a cure for cancer.Sudsy Fist: i don't think i'd ever say this Sudsy Fist: but you're looking damn sudsydoable in this
