Saying that "you don't have to participate" is different from saying "you can't participate."

You're trying to say the former position is yours and the latter position that of the town builder, but I don't see that at all.

Being a moderator may give you special powers over (thread) life and death, as well as the ability to banish those who disobey the rules, but I don't see anywhere in those same rules that moderators are exempt from being prodded to post a decent argument.

So far, you haven't. We're waiting.

I remember your arguments from rec.skydiving, and I have every reason to believe that your post was not a threat, but merely the first real world example you thought of...but it sounded like a threat, and I think you'll find that most of those posting in this thread are going to react to it that way.

I have no issues with them creating this type of environment or community, where I question this idea is the useage of tax dollars to create the infastructure. If they accept federal or state tax dollars then my understanding is that they can not prevent any sector of sociaty from moving in or creating ordaninces that are in disagreement with federal/state laws. $250 million doesn't go that far when you have to put in roads, utilities and just the basic parts of a community. Expecially when the focus of the community is going to be the university. Rough cost for even small dorms is 2-5 million that will hold a few hundred students max. Drop in a few dorms, some classrooms and a church and you quickly start drawing into the money that will be paying for the roads and everything else.

For all I care they can force everyone to paint their faces purple, but if they use tax dollars to do it, thats where I have an issue.

I'm in the same boat, but we have to consider that these people also will PAY taxes.

Do they get a special tax rate only for those things they use - since they'll be denied taxes that other communities would get? For that matter, are there any taxes they would be denied - or are the things they are trying to control not really supported by taxes anyway?

But I agree, no city should get federal or state tax money to purchase purple paint.
