They can charge her but not convict her on the basis of a written statement. You can't cross examine written statements.

I personally think this is messed up big time. She's got a sentence in another court, and I applaud the judge for saying that the sentence that was proposed in the agreement was shocking.

I can't answer your question about the double standard other than to say it exists, and admittedly it is wrong.

With respect to fantasizing about an older female teacher, I can relate. I would have given anything to get under the skirt of my fourth grade teacher, and was horribly bitter that I never got the chance (maybe she just wanted to be teacher and student and nothing more). I realize that it sounds sick and I would condemn any woman in her 30's who would do such a thing, but at the time, it was all I could think of. I was just hitting puberty and she was built like a model. I would walk out of class everyday limping, trying to hide the obvious (which wasn't much to look at given my age). I learned very quickly not to wear track pants to school.

I don't think it's any worse for a man to have sex with a 14 y/o than it is for a woman to do the same thing.....given that the 14 y/o's have the same degree of willingness. Girls may want to have sex with a hot male teacher as much as boys want to have sex with a hot female teacher. Neither teacher, imho, is more at fault than the other.

society is generally confused, shit there are still places where if your are not married w/3-4 kids by the time your 15 you are considered old!
Its these screwed up laws that have you people all messed up in the head, the body is willing as soon as puberty hits. I have met a lot of younger kids who are mature and understand what sex is about better than some older people and if you have 2 people who are willing it will happen. If I was 15 I would have no problem having sex with a 30 yr old and if I was 30 I would have no problem having sex with a 15 yr old. (local laws permitting of course certainly not going to jail for sex but if the laws were changed I wouldnt have a problem with it) it happens every day wether you want to admit it or not. Every guy who has ever watched those young gymnastic girls flip around has had the thought run thru his head, what if i could.....and any woman who has looked a boy and thought to herself what I wouldnt give to be ravished by that young stud!.... this is not natures law and Im rusty on my bible but I dont thinks its gods law either its mans law. I actually read an artical that these age sex laws were actually secretly pushed thru and made law by the country's leaders wives who were tired of never getting any while there husbands were chasing younger girls!

Just to go on the record, I think this is a horrible event, and indeed sexual abuse of a child. Further, I also suspect a double standard...but I am not sure how many charges against men are dropped because the victim doesn't want to testify. As for house arrest and probation, I think that was a light, light sentence, but likely the best that the prosecutors could do with a witness who refuses to testify.

Actually, it is. From a "survival of the species" point of view a female of the species should become sexually active as soon as she is fully developed (i.e. sexually). There is no advantage in wasting reproductive cycles waiting for further development.
From a social standpoint it has become immoral or even illegal, but keep in mind that well into the 20th century it was "normal" or even expected for a girl to marry as soon as she reached puberty (around 15, I know the age is lower now because of better living conditions).
Nowadays with dramatically increased life expectancy and reduced mortality it has become practical for a woman to marry as late has her 30s, this however changes nothing at the biological level.
It is still "normal" to feel sexual attraction for a fully developed female, it is just not allowed by society to act upon this impulse any more.
You cannot regulate biology.
