jakee 1,500 #26 June 25, 2006 QuoteOther great men of the day, notably Alexander the Great, were also said to be of virgin births. Well, actually no. Alexander certainly claimed to be (and by the time of his death was accepted to be) of divine origin but not virgin. His mother Olympias claimed to have been impregnated by a snake. The divine (not virgin) part is the most important - since by the time of Jesus being the son of God is a very routine claim - not in the least extraordinary.Do you want to have an ideagasm? StreetScooby 5 #27 June 25, 2006 Quote There is great power to belief and nothing in history disproves the existence of an unknowable God, who can only be imperfectly understood with incomplete human concepts. Very well put. I'm sitting here this Sunday morning sipping my coffee and reading this thread. Very educating and entertaining. Nice way to start my day! Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
masterblaster72 0 #29 October 3, 2006 Quotewhat is quite cool, for you who are interested in archeology, is that there is a temple of mithra in rome two levels below the church of St. Clement, which is located quite close to St. John Lateran, one of the 4 main Basilicas in Rome. The mithraic temple is very well preserved and is quite fascinating to see. I went last week, here are the pics. Even though I wasn't allowed to take pics, I couldn't help myself. That place was amazing. Thanks for the tip Micro! Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
