Finally saw "The Passion of the Christ"...

BTW: Who really saw Jesus walking, stumbling with the weight of the cross on his back??? It's all playing with emotions and the phantasy of folks. Show me a proof.:|

Some the gospel writers were eye witnesses (If Matthew wrote Matthew) Mark wrote Peter's perspective. By gospel accounts, Peter was there as was John. I understand if you don't have faith in anything you can't see with your own two eyes, but I'm just curious as to why you think someone's devotion to their religion is weird or undesireable.:S

Got some news for you guys....there are some extra-biblical parts in Passion of the Christ! [sarcasm]:o:o:o[/sarcasm] The major "additions" if you will are The Mystical City of God by Mary of Agreda (a 17th century nun) and the writings of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (a 19th century stigmatic). (I copy and pasted from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passion_of_the_christ)

I'm not saying that these "extra" events didn't happen, but to think they were always in the Gospel accounts is rather naive.

I'm very aware of the extra biblical parts. To me it doesn't take away from a very good portrayal of his passion.

BTW. I'm not catholic, nor do I pretend to speak for Catholics, but ther extra parts you speak of are a part of catholic history and tradition. To Catholics (such as Mel Gibson) it would carry equal weight. To me, it is fluff and doesn't offend me any more that the very caucasian looking Jesus. ;)

It was gratuitously violent, blatantly anti-semitic, historically inaccurate and without a single redemptive quality. Other than that, it was typical religious bullshit.:|

Is this anti-semitic? It was written between 740-680 BC.

  Quote

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Isaiah 53

I never said she lacks understanding. But she speaks as if there were an actual person, a close buddy of hers who incidentally is the universal savior, somewhere being tortured every time she does something she perceives as being against his will. Its a deliberate bending of perception to a point that to me is unrecognizably inaccurate.
I sort of get it, and sort of totally don't. But it worries me when I see it, kind of like those bumper stickers. You know, the ones say "in case of rapture this car will be unmanned"? I worry about the true believer in the Lincoln in the lane next to me in the blizzard. The one who goes sideways into my lane, trusts to Jesus to get him out of it and spends precious seconds praying that could better be spent regaining control of his vehicle. Application of religion in the wrong environment can be extremely hazardous to those around you.

Well, call my passionate response whatever you will folks. It will not make me deny Christ or the power of the cross;).

My belief is not backed up by the movie; actually SEEING with my two eyes what the gruesome death Jesus went through MUST have been like, helped drive home the point of how much pain he went through, and the love that motivated him to die on the cross.

The Bible says that Christ was beaten beyond recognition. The Passion of the Christ was a movie made, to somehow help others understand what Christ really went through. Jesus was not some weak pansy who just got a sliver from the cross. He wore a crown of thorns, was spat at, mocked, falsely accused, and was severly whipped with a cat-of-nine-tails; then, he was forced to carry his own cross, and basically had to heave himself up in order to breathe, once he once on the cross.

Believe what you will, but why worry about what I believe? If you have peace in your heart that the Bible is a fairytale, Jesus was a myth, then go on your merry way and don't worry about what others believe.
If you are at rest and have peace that my belief is wrong, let me believe what I believe, and don't question it.:P

My guess is her feelings are not created by this movie, but that this movie's visual images drove home what she felt about Christ's passion. We are a visual generation -- makes sense to me.

Right on bro!!! B|
I know people won't understand my heart, but it's all good.:)

Duh! God gave me a brain for a reason. Those who test God and don't use the abilities He's given them are just asking for trouble.

Yet to believe you must have "faith" (the suspension of rational thought.)
Hmmmmm.....:S

No insults...Just observation.
Giving credit to a "higher being" for the ability to think rationally and having to suspend rational thought in order to believe in the higher being seems ironic.
Sorry if you feel insulted-it wasn't the intent.

say what you guys will, but it seems to me you are either scared, worried, or angered by someone's religous passion. Now I can understand why certain zealots who kill in the name of their god make you feel that way. I can even understand why someone who pushes their religous views down your throats makes you feel that way. But to criticize what Sarah said about her reaction to a movie says a lot abot you and your own religous insecurities. At least that is my impression.B| hmmmmmmmmmmm

"The Passion" encouraged me to live a holy life like never before, that I may honor Jesus Christ with my life. :)
Seeing Jesus stumble with the weight of the cross on his back, and him bleeding for humans who would reject him and mock the very thing he did to show love for them--in my mind I saw love more than ever before, and I cannot wait to meet the face of love when I stand before him in heaven.
:)

A human made movie is backing up your belief???
Dear Jesus :o

Windcatcher,
Really. Read and reflect what this poster is saying. Your comments just sound so emotionally driven and trite.

Once one makes the leap of ...er, faith they most likely can see confirmation in a bowl of alphabet soup.

No, (and speaking generally here) people who take a left turn out of reality worry me a bit, no matter how benign they seem.

It is written you will be persecuted for your faith in Christ. Never deny your faith. Reread Revelation and take a step back and look what's going on in the world. His return may be sooner than we think.

Your assumption of having to suspend rational thought in order to believe in God has no basis.

Don't criticize what you don't understand. Christains believe Christ is as real to them as the person next to them.

YOU don't believe that? Great, but what a waste of energy for you to be worried about it. Sheesh!

EXACTLY!!!

Anyone who knows me can vouch for the fact I am sinner just as much as anyone else?...

Am I going to go around telling others there is no God, because that way I can excuse my own behavior? :S

NO

p.s. some things we have done in life may condemn us to eternity in hell or may exhonerate us and provide the opportunity to go to heaven.

There may even be no heaven, but one thing is for sure, WE WILL ALL FIND OUT SOMEDAY.:o

There is nothing you have done or will do that can even possibly exhonerate you and provide your opportunity to go to heaven.

Do you have anything rational to add or just insults?

It's okay Jay.:). I know lots of people think I am a fool for my faith in Christ, but it doesn't really bother me anymore. I can just continue to love them:))
Mwhahahahahahhahahhahahah!!! >:(

We are fools for Christ 1 Cor. 4:10
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Cor. 1:18

Do not fear the reproach of men or be terrified by their insults Isa. 51:7

I'm so happy! :):)
edited to add: I can hear the laughter now!

"Go up, my warriors, against the land of Merathaim and against the people of Pekod. Yes, march against Babylon, the land of rebels, a land that I will judge! Pursue, kill, and completely destroy them, as I have commanded you," says the LORD. "Let the battle cry be heard in the land, a shout of great destruction". (Jeremiah 50:21-22 NLT)
