LisaM 0 #1 May 9, 2006 Anyone ever seen the documentary ? I was shocked to find out one way they keep their labor costs down is to have less people work at a time... i.e. less lanes open. I just went to grab a few things. 4 lanes open.... 2 regla, 2 express.... 15 people in each lane... yuck! I gave my basket to an employee and left. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder? We'll come into town, close down your local stores, sell you cheap crap made overseas, and then bullshit you about how we're so wonderful because we saved you $.37 on socks! JAC 0 #6 May 9, 2006 Big Box Mart... Can't stand it!!! The very thought of going there makes my skin crawl. The one's I've been in seem to be filthy. You can't get in and out of the dang parking lot in less than 15 minutes. I'm a target girl myself. And I still find myself getting a little frustrated there sometimes too. Slappie 9 #11 May 9, 2006 There was a South Park episode based around Wal-Mart and the premise it was all controled by an evil being. You could destroy it and over night it would rebuild itself. The only way to trully rid your town of it was to remove it's evil heart core. Pretty observant of the writers. First you have to get by all the bargains to get to this core. No one can resist all those bargains. I went to wal mart one day looking for something, it was crowded, noisy, messy. Then I went over to super target. Not nearly as crowded, noisy, and messy forget about it you could probably eat off the floor. Some businesses just take care of their stores better I guess, or is that the employees I can never tell.Skymama's #2 stalker -

monkycndo 0 #16 May 9, 2006 SprawlMart is know for "offering" to come to your town to provide "jobs" (read low paying w/o benefits) as long as they get tax credits. The city gives them a deal for 10 or 15 years. A new mega complex shopping center is built with new franchise chains clinging to the mothership. The local mom and pop stores can't compete and close down. Once SprawlMart loses the tax credits, they close the store and move to the next town over. The shopping center loses its anchor and becomes a ghost town. All the workers now have to drive to the next town over to buy the cheap goods because they are making even less on unemployment. Nice way to maintain market share. They create customers that can't afford to shop anywhere else.50 donations so far. Give it a try. skybytch 273 #20 May 9, 2006 I can't decide if I love or hate WalMart. I know they are evil incarnate for all the reasons others have mentioned, but Super WalMart's have the best prices on groceries I've ever seen. As broke as I always am, it's hard to spend the extra $10 for the same stuff at a stand alone grocery store. The one nearest me is a Super WalMart that hasn't been discovered by many of the locals yet. Went there for groceries yesterday at 2 pm; was in and out in 20 minutes flat, didn't even have to wait in line to pay. The only time it seems busy (ie like every other Wally World I've been to) is between 5 and 7 pm weekdays and on the weekends.

It wasn't that crowded but the 4 lane thing made check out in under 20 minutes impossible. And I too thought I didn't have the extra $10 to spare. my hubby convinced me to start doing costco..... only a family of 3.... but it is such a pleasant experience. I now do regular grocery stores only once a month to get what they don't have at costco... and thev I use the flyers to make my list.....My bill has gone down.... ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder? The way they organize things is just too damned confusing. Juice is on one aisle, sports drinks are on another, and soft drinks are on yet another. Trying to find the milk is like going on an Easter egg hunt, and it's a three day hike to the other side of the store to get shampoo. I've traditionally been a big fan of Wal-Mart's convenient 24-hour one-stop shopping, but lately I've found myself getting really annoyed when I'm trying to buy deodorant and mouthwash and I'm stuck behind some guy who appears to be making preparations to host a barbecue, change the oil on his truck, shoot a deer, watch some DVD's, and take dirty pictures of his wife in cheap lingerie. And those automated checkout lines were invented by the devil.I don't have an M.D. or a law degree. I have bachelor's in kicking ass and taking names. Slappie 9 #25 May 9, 2006 I've actually gotten my gf to shop more at Target. Not much better in the scheme of things and killing competition. Just better then Wal-Mart by a smidgen.
