It's an outrage that in 2006 women are still made to dress in black from head to toe! Often seen in third world countries when asked they often say its their choice but when pressed on the matter they admit that they dress like that because its how their husband wants them to dress and because God requires them to. Clearly its a lie that they would want to wear those thick black shapeless all in ones in that heat. these women should be liberated and allowed to dress the way they want. Its appaling.

Just incase you werent aware of it but they choose to become nuns, and therefore enjoy the simple life they lead as well as the simple clothing they wear.

What makes you think the Islamic women don't dress that way because they want to? Is it only western christian women that like to dress like that?

If they wear their garb because it's what they want to wear, and without fear of reprisal if they choose a different path, then there's no problem as far as I can see.

Well, I think you ran into a big misunderstaning. See below.

Exactly. That's the point.
In western countries, where Catholic church is in "force", few women freely choose to become nuns, and they perfectly know what comes with it (simple life, all those long black dresses and so on).
In Islamic fundamentalist countries ALL THE WOMEN must dress like that because it's part of their culture and religion, and, more important, that's the way ALL MEN expect ALL their women/wifes are going to be dressed.
Even in those Islamic fundamentalist countries where, because of the "revolution", they removed the legal obligation to wear a burka, just because burka IS part of the (unwritten) local culture, women can hardly switch from burka to western clothes from the very next day of the removal of said legal obligation.
To say it simply:
1) to wear long dark dresses in Catholic countries is a free choice of few women
2) to wear long dark dresses in Islamic fundamentalist countries is a compulsory behaviour for ALL WOMEN
