First of all, we don't know all the circumstances yet, so it's premature for everyone to be jumping to the conclusion that they are guilty of murder.

But that doesn't stop the media witchhunt, always eager to bash America, the military, and the Bush Administration.

It's not news unless it's bad news. Good news is not news.

Even if it's murder, this is a very isolated event. And isn't it ironic how the tactics of the enemy is to commit such massacres every single day, of innocent men, women and children just going about their daily lives, in restaurants and shopping districts. Yet none of these anti-American pigs seem to be the least bit concerned about those events. So it's not really about the terrible loss of Iraqii life with which they are concerned. No, it's all about bashing America and the military. This is how they feed their hatred.

Like it or not, when the US decided to be the "Adult" of the world, they put themselves into a position that requires a higher standard.

I expect better of the troops. I expect Terrorists to act like that, but not soldiers.

Of course, this is the first report and may be wrong. So I would not hang the troops yet. But if they are breaking ROE, then they should face UCMJ action.

I honestly think that if you got off the "hatred of Bush, must blame Bush for everything" thing you would see we agree more than you think.

That and the "anyone that disagrees with me is a NAZI, or a KKK member" thing.

Like I have said several times, you seem pretty smart and well read. It is a shame you result to bumper sticker defenses.

And you and your apologist buddies need to get off of the fact that anyone who disagrees with the paranoid in the oval offices.... is un american kick ...you might see a reality that there are ways to disagree with you guys without you having to refer to it as hatred.

I agree John, lets see if the drone that was flying above can bring more clarity to this Newsweek hack reporter blame America first.

I just ended with Newsweek hack to stir this thread up.

I am some what bothered by the President not standing behind the troops more forcefully and make it clear its still under investigation, lets wait until we get the facts.

I personnally thought him saying if its true those responsible will be brought to justice gave support to those already believing they are already guilty of murder. (Senator Murtha is starting to sound like a hack) War hero my ass, when he is so ready to turn on the men who have not been charged with any crime as of yet. Certainly a cheap shot and I beginning to question his charater.

Well, I saw a feature about the incident on OZ TV last night. Some disturbing facts:

1) They interviewed the mother of a marine who was part of the "clean up" team. He told her that there were many woman and children amongst the dead - all killed by shots to the head and chest from close range (inside the house). He (the soldier) nearly lost it when he had to carry a 3 year old girl out who had her head blown away and her brain dripped on his boots. She said her son was in no doubt what had happened.

2) Why has it taken so long before an investigation was initiated? An expert on the show said that the "clean up" team normally should have reported that this needed to be investigated (both due to the way the bodies were found and the complaints of locals) and this should have gone at least to the division's intelligence unit.

Seems to be that there might not just be a massacre which will shock people but also an attempted cover up.

Doesn't surprise me. There was an attempt at a cover up following My Lai. One of the officers in charge of the attempted cover-up was one Major Colin Powell.

How long do you think it will take before the first Lefty starts ranting about how this incident means we need to withdraw our troops immediately, and it's all Bush's fault?

Make no mistake, this is a horrible incident from what I've learned so far and all involved should receive the severest punishment if they had anything to do with it.

Of course many of the Lefties are likely salivating to make this political.

Commence with the Bush bash.

That could be said of virtually every serial murderer or even a garden variety murder in America.... poor rationalization. Does there have to be a Halocaust in order to be routine?

The difference is that you would hang the troops, others would slap hands and require an apology.

What could possibly be political about a war that was initiated on false premise? Fuckin lefties, Jesus Christ.

Sorry GM that attitude does not help.. assuming what others will say before thay actually say it... why would you do that?

Lets wait and see what the investigation reveals.

This incident (and what followed) should be investigated fully and stand on it's own, outside of the general conflict over there. If it turns out that crimes wre commited, then it's going to have an impact on the overall situation, for sure but is unlikly to affect troop deployment policey overall. They are set by completely different agenda (and rightly so). from an aberration suchg as the one reported here.

The attitude that doesn't help is the one that turns this into a political, anti war, anti-Bush bash.

Lets wait and see what the investigation reveals.

I agree and have said as much. Watch who turns this into their own personal rampage and then direct your comments towards them.

Well, there might be more of these incidents:

The US military has told the BBC it is investigating an incident in which 11 Iraqi civilians may have been deliberately killed by US troops.

Where did you hear this? I searched Snopes using the phrase "Colin Powell My Lai" and nothing was returned.
