NY Politician Says Sen. Schumer Would Put Bullet in Bush's Head
June 01, 2006 06:35 PM EST

by Jim Kouri - NEW YORK, NY --During a commencement speech at Queens College in New York City, Democrat Alan Hevesi, New York State Controller, said that "Senator Chuck Schumer would put a bullet into President Bush's head if he could get away with it."

The Democrat made the comment while praising Sen. Schumer, a liberal Democrat who's been highly critical of the President and his administration.

A few hours later, Controller Hevesi held a press conference to apologize for his comments.

Sen. Schumer replied that Hevesi's comments were inappropriate and uncalled for.

It's OK though, he said he was sorry.

A pretty stupid thing to say but what should the punishment be for such statement. What would happen if a member of the GOP said Hillary or Feinstein should be killed?

There would be immediate outrage (see Trent Lott) and screams about over the top radical murdering right wing radicals. There would be calls for his immediate resignation, no apology, no matter how sincere and heartfelt would be acceptable. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Chuck Shumer would trample little old ladies as they stampeded to all available microphone to blast Bush and his hate mongering cronies. But alas, this jackass was just committing a verbal faux pas.

I was imediately jumped all over by liberals who thought I was awful for making a similar statement.

I would like to know why the same people have nothing to say in condemnation of the people who said it about our president.

I said it in an open ended sentence and yet Hevesi said that "Shumer would put a bullet in President Bush's head if he could get away with it"

I want know why the USSS has not picked them up for making an actual threat against the president.

I reread the statement and it looks like forethought and malice comes into play here, maybe they did a study group on the feasibility eh?

Explain how person "A" saying what he thinks person "B" would do to person "C" constitutes an actual threat of any kind.

If I were to say "Warpedskydiver would like to shoot the president", have either you or I made a threat?

Ann Coulter says Democrats/Liberals are guilty of treason, a capital offense.

It would sound a lot like Ann Coulter saying that someone should put rat poison in Justice Steven's creme brulee. You folks were outraged about that one right?

An accusation of a crime is not the same as advocating a crime (e.g. assassination).
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

It wasn't a "should" (advocating or encouraging an action), it was a "would" (predicting someone else's future behavior). To the best of my knowledge, predicting the future is still (a) iffy at best, and (b) not a criminal offense.

The difference is on one hand you have a political commentator tossing bombs because that's how she earns her living and on the other hand you have an elected official, a representative of the people, making an admittedly over the top statement. Ann Coulter has no political power over anyones life.

Nice try at distraction, though.

Nice that you don't hold elected officials to a higher standard of conduct than a political commentator.

I would think Ann has more "followers" than this dude, therefore can probably effect more change and maybe she should be held to a higher standard?

The funny thing is, I saw an interview with Ann on a Canadian channel in which she was just making baseless statements. When she got called on it she ended the interview and refused to reply to any further communications.

She makes a lot of noise, some seem to equate that to intelligence. Would certainly explain their behaviour.

She sure gets more valuable air time than ummm.....what's his name again?

If Schumer hadn't publically condemend the statement then I would have had a problem with it. Hevesi screwed up. That was a stupid thing to say and he should apologize for letting his emotions guide his tounge. Hell, fine him. Fire him. I don't care. But regarding Coulter, for whatever reason, she gets a LOT of airtime on prime time news programming in in the papers. I'd certainly call her much more influential than the NY comptroller. Actually I'd call her a loudmouthed, ignorant, hateful bigot who doesn't deserve to be given the time of day, much less a forum...but that's probably understood.

Trust me, this position is going to come back to bite you in the ass one day. Just remember you said it, OK? B|
