I know I will get flamed for this, but that basically said Americans are too stupid to dig deeper....

(probably goes for many other nations as well.)

Different perspective that I got from it but interesting angle none the less.

Not what I took from the article but thanks for the differing veiw.

The media is just like any other business in the end they want to make as much money as possible for their share holders.

When it comes to print media that translates into: We will do whatever it takes (within legal boundries) to sell as many copies on a continued basis as possible.

Their loyalty does not lie with the public, it lies with their share/stake holders.

onceyou have figured that out, you realize have to do some of your own research if you really want to try and formulate an informed opinion.

It's an op-ed piece anyway. I always find it amusing when mainstream media outlets try and portray themselves as objective "outsiders".

That takes some energy and more importantly you have to care enough to do the research. Unfortunately most take the easy way out they trust their shepherd and go Bahhhhh bahhhhhhhing along.

I have always dreamed of having a news paper or program that just reported the facts as they are with there history with out prejudice, and in cases where there is more then one side show all sides and let the people decide where the truth is.

This post is a little insulting to me as you make assumptions that I do not realize this. In that assumption you are mistaken. Also, I do mine own research comparing as much as I can within the media and looking outside the media for more validation. Once again an assumption is incorrect.

I also derive from your post I do not have informed opinions? Your opinion but still insulting.

What I realize (and I do not know whether you do or not) is the the media for good or bad, has great influence in the country and being as biased as they are is dangerous and is used daily to try and swing attitudes and opinions I see as damaging to the US.

I will let my insulted feelings go as I do not think you intended the comments that way but please consider your posts toward someone from thier point of view in the future.

Hells bells... a very large segment of our current electorate will not even do that.... they will rely on what they are told in church on Sunday morning.. when they get their.... this is how you... my flock should feel about this subject.... from the pastor/priest.

Kinda like the same thing that happens in mosques on Friday..

Your number one news source fits this description perfectly. Of course, they tell you what you want to hear, so they must be unbiased and not attempting in any way to sway opinions.

Not your favorite, but a good example of how you view media outlets. Ones that agree with you are right and ones that don't are wrong. What I'm saying is your opinion on pretty much everything is formed before you start to digest information. You just bypass anything that you don't agree with, therefore you tend to hover around your number one source for unbiased and hard-hitting journalism, Newsmax.:D

Just wanted to reply specifically to this.
Everything you post here is for all the world to see, good or bad. Sometimes, these things can come back to your personal life. I've been around here a while and people know I'm not a troll. I wiped my personal info out of my profile after what happened to PhillyKev and Aggie Dave. I'll never put that info back, but I may reveal it privately. I would urge everyone to consider very carefully what information about themselves they wish to become public.

What happened (briefly) to them?

To my knowledge, neither has said specifically.
I think it basically boiled down to someone pulling up all their posts or posting history and going to their bosses with it. Malicious for sure. Rumor was it ended up costing PhillyKev his job and Dave some grief, although to what extent I'm not sure. Moral of the story is: This is a very public domain. Some people take it far too seriously. Anything you put into this very public domain should only be done after careful consideration of the consequences, however trivial.

Quite arogant to say this what ever you dig up. And for the record, yes I post it but as I said. Many of Newsmax articles are reprints from many sources the most coming from everyones favorite AP and Reuters. But Newmax get certin posters going so I use it even though I have found it on other sites. In short, You are wrong...again

Even though I was replying to a post you made, I wasn't really addressing you, guess I should have clarified that.

It is used daily to try and influence peple. Just look at the government making complete scenes so they can try and get it on TV without any editing, making it sound like actual news.

This goes back to my original response. Many people (in this case the American people) are too stupid to realize this.

That phenomenon is definitely one that occurs, and is why there is so much effort in government today to control and shape the media. They know that the media plays a big role in shaping public opinion. It was one way that approval for the Iraq war was generated in the first place, for example. (At least one major newspaper later apologized for that; good for them.)

It's important to remember, though, that they exist to make money, not to a) report objective news, b) influence public opinion or c) "retain power." They don't care about power, they care about money, like most US businesses. If you gave an NBC executive the option of becoming the #1 news show in the US, but losing all his ad revenues, he'd laugh at you. They show news people want to see because that makes them more money, and people like to see whether they are "in the majority" - thus the frequent polling, and resultant behavior as described in the article you posted a link to.

Not a genuine apology, they did it to try and make more money.:P

Probably true. Maybe they thought the whole honesty/asking forgiveness thing would sell more papers.

Fair enough, I will consider this one a draw :)
