With some hope Stephen Harper (who gets along quite fine with Bush) is pumping desperately needed funds into our starved military

So where do you think you guys will use for training.. when you are part of the Coalition of the Willing for the next Excellent Adventure with George and Rummy....when we go after the Iranians next year???

Quite the conservative approach lately - threaten violence to get someone to come around to the correct way of thinking. Although in the case of journalists, conservatives seem to want to take it out on their kids as well as the journalists themselves.

Me thinks you misunderstood me. Notwithstanding my steaknife vasectomy comment, I simply feel that if these guys feel so strongly about their disrespect for veterans they should be willing to make eye contact with every teacher, employer, co-worker...etc, and explain why they felt it appropriate to piss on the memorial for young men who died horrible deaths to protect their rights. They have the right to freedom of expression and society has they right to confront them on that expression. These guys chose a public forum for their expression and have therefore chosen to relinquish their right to privacy on their expression. If Johnny Buttplug decides to express himself in full public view he should be man enough to face public scrutiny for his actions.

He knew where to go to express his opinion of the veterans who fought, so why shouldn't John Q. Public know where to go to exercise their right to freely express their opinions of his actions.

If he feels a bit embarrased... well he was a big enough man to piss on the graves of men better than him, he is a big enough man to look people in the eye while they express their opinion of his actions.

A healthy military and a willingness to manage relations with the POTUS does not mean that one has to go off to every war he sends his troops into. It simply means that if we don't go it's because we do not approve...not because we can't.

Perhaps. First off, I agree with you that he's a lowlife. Fortunately, there are pretty simple laws to prevent that (i.e. public urination) and if he's caught I hope they throw the book at him.

>They have the right to freedom of expression and society has they
>right to confront them on that expression.

OK, we're talking about two different things here. Public urination is against the law, period. He can't do that not because free speech is illegal (either here or in Canada where the incident took place) but because pissing in public is illegal.

However, had he done something disrespectful but legal at that monument, then society does NOT have any new rights to confront them on that expression. Exercise of your rights does not create any legal liability for you, nor should it.

>He knew where to go to express his opinion of the veterans who

Let's assume you're talking about a (legal) expression of his opinions. Are the following OK:

Publishing the address of a school where a pro-Abu Ghraib senator's children go to school, and saying "maybe we should see if they think torture is OK if it can be done to their kids!"

Posting the home address of a judge who put a suspected gang member in jail, so that gang members can find him to freely express their opinions of his actions.

Again, I think he's a dirtbag for peeing on the memorial, and I hope they find him and prosecute him. But absent the element of illegality, your (or my) opinion on whether or not he's respectful or not changes nothing about whether he is entitled to the same level of privacy as you or I.

Just saying that people who disagree with him might want to tell him what they think of him. It's not as though he was trying to be discrete. He wanted to be seen.

No, but then I am not advocating publishing his kids or NOK's name or picture. Just him. He seemed quite proud of himself so I figured he might want a second opportunity to speak to his actions.

That would be wrong but I am not advocating publishing his home address. Secondly naming where he goes to school would not likely place him in danger; most Canadians will just protest loudly to him.

I guess I felt that by doing his act in front of the public he willingly relinquished his right tp privacy. He seemed to want to be seen. Despite my earlier rants I do not truly advocate harming the guy but I do think that since he chose to make a spectacle of himself he has chose to put his actions on the froint page. All kinds of people who are arrested get their name and picture published. He seems to enjoy publicity.

Anyway,

Cheers,

Okay, then the same rule should apply to you.

I think that you are a disgrace to humanity for suggesting that this guy should be killed. As others have pointed out, your attitude is the very personification of the kind of macho bullshit that causes wars and other fucked up situations.

Your eventual concession that you "didn't really mean it" means nothing after you've advocated your own perverted blend of vigilante justice, torture, and execution.

You'd be happy living in a fascist state.

I don't belive it for a second.

Canada has a war memorial? Yeah, right.

What.... someone tried to steal a keg of Molson, eh?

This event took place on the ninetieth anniversary of the battle of the Somme, a battle that claimed over one million souls.
I know this will strain your little brain, but if you do the math that means this battle took place in 1916. That's right World War One didn't start in 1917! That's just when you guys got off the couch. When democracy has been truly at risk Canada has never hesitated; we just don't go chasing John Foster Dulles' or Donald Rumsfeld's bogeymen. (BTW here's another shocker; WWII started in 1939! No really!)

58,000 British casualties on the first day alone, a third of which were killed. Just thought i'd add that, the figure has always stuck in my head from a book i read years ago....truely tragic battle

I wouldnt even waste my time with scum that want to urinate on a memorial of any nature. Its one of them things that just strikes me as so stupid and disrespectful that i cant even think of what i would like seen done to them? Violence isnt the answer in any case i dont believe. I think i'd like to see them taken to some of the biggest grave yards and let them stand in awe at the waves of graves that symbolise a tragedy. Then make them tend every single one.

So, what you really said was Canada answered England's call for help and the US didn't. You might want to study a little history about the factors leading up to WWI and II. You won't find many US signatures on all those interlocking mutual defense treaties prior to WWI. The US people of the time, post WWI, were sick of European wars; of which WWII was the one that finally ended centuries of fighting.
One more note, though slow to respond, it was the US involvement in WWI and WWII that pushed the advantage over to the Allies.;)

We're still all on the same team - :P
