Another crook in Washington

Recommended Posts

Yes, it figures that people with money and power are making use of the legal loopholes to benefit while most do nothing but bitch about it.

If I had the money and the time, I'd be using all the legal tactics possible to increase both for myself and my loved ones. Until people convince congress to change the tax law*, this will be standard practice across the country.

* - of course this will never happen because (A) the congressmen in both parties have just as much money and take advantage of the same loopholes and (B) the supporters that pay for them to get re-elected take advantage of the loopholes and would not look kindly on loosing their legal but dirty tactics.

Why is he a crook? Because he took advantage of things that are written into the law of the land? Doesn't seem all that illegal to me.

It will end when tax law is changed. See above post for when that is likely to happen.

It is possible to be within the law, and be a crook.

It has to do with ethics and moral values. Just because something is legal, doesn't mean that it is ethical or moral.

If what the story says is true, they are crooks, in my opinion, even if the actions were within the letter of the law.

Are you saying that because what they did was legal, it was ethical?

The lawmakers make the laws and write-in the 'loop-holes'. With the stroke of a pen and enough 'Yays', anything is possible AND... legal! Ta-da! Government at work. For instance. The 'little' loop-hole in regard to a large tax break for those who purchased big, heavy SUVs. The government was being cheated out of tax dollars and it was all legal. It may be un-ethical but, it is legal. Nobody goes to the slammer. Also, the lobbyists, buying-off the politicians 'profit' by these loop-holes. One reason the lobbyists pay the politicians the big bucks... to get what they want. Hey! It's the government. Oxymoron: Government - Ethics!

Makes me what to run for office. Where else can you be a crook and get away with it. Carl Levin where are you at on my list...

Near the top.

Thanks to him we paid 25 million dollars to rename the federal center to the Hart-Dole-Inoya Federal Center.

I could have used some of that money.....>:(
