I've been turned to the Dark Side by YOU EVIL, EVIL GUN PEOPLE!!

:o
Yes, it happened. Today was my :D time shooting a gun.

I took a Pistol Safety Course, and we finally got some range time today.

The instructer had us shoot a .22 sitting, standing two-handed, and standing one-handed. Then we each got to try shooting aa 9mm & a 45 semiautos & a .357 revolver.

wait'll my latte-sipping liberal friends from Cambridge, Massachusetts see the attached pic:

So, where are the Evil Gun People who gave me the idea to try this nefarious act?

Kinda fun huh?

You should look into a local IDPA or IPSC club and go watch them. You might find yourself enjoying it and getting involved. Now that is a really really fun competition!

Did y'have to eat a baby for breakfast too? Well did ya?:D:D:D

I loved shooting too, what I was in the RAF... at paper targets, but great fun all the same. I just wanted to get better groupings than I did last time..... never really did tho'

That was taken at a Halloween boogie, the night after I'd finished AFF.

Note all the possibly-less-drunk people watching me from a safe distance.:P:|

LOL!! Now I think you're less cool for a drunken-catholic-scientist who I thought was black but isn't. [:/]

Just kidding!!! :D

Glad you had fun shooting! Most do who go out on their first excursion. It really is a blast, no pun intended. Now that I have 15+ acres, I intend on building a suitable shooting range so I can go blow shit up any time I damn well please. >:(

I just noticed in that picture: It looks almost like I have a bald spot on the top of my head! I actually just went to the mirror to check. No bald spot.:$

weird. must be some trick of the light.

There were six students & we were out there for about 4 hours & it was like 95 degrees. B|Then when we were taking turns shooting the last gun (the .45) it started POURING down rain all of a sudden.

Unfortunately, I also found I sucked pretty bad at shooting. :|

I need to learn to relax more. The same thing happened in AFF: I passed all the lessons without having to re-do anything, but the JMs all said I needed to learn to relax more. I've found when I learn to do something new, I learn best when I go off by myself & spend time doing it alone. In skydiving, I learned the basics in AFF, but it really clicked for me when I did a bunch of solos & was able to just relax in freefall with no one else around.

So I bet the same is true with shooting. I need to just borrow a gun or something (can you rent a gun??) & go to the range by myself & just relax & spend some time alone getting used to shooting. It's just the way I am, I guess. I learn best when I'm by myself.

I went shooting to day also. great stress reliever. I have a colt .45 auto, what was your favorite?

You should be able to rent guns at the range, mine does.

no shit??? I checked the websites of various ranges & didn't see anything about renting guns. Being a total noob, I have no clue what is typical at a range.

(I won't be able to use the range shown above; it is a police range & we could only use it for this class)

Yes, you can rent a gun at many ranges.

Some even rent those horrible "destructive devices," machine guns.
(the real thing that goes full auto, not some "evil" looking semi-automatic rifle)

I took Robyn (RoadRash) shooting just before we left corn country behind for North Carolina, and she loved it, too.

Fixed the levels on that for you, a quick photoshop auto levels was pretty effective, see attachment.

I thought you were black American footballer kicking a burning ball in the pic!! Wowsers...

Anyway, how do upload an avatar? All my pics are too "big." Is there some simple way of reducing the size so they can be uploadable? I'm too lazy to mess around and figure it out for myself.:)

'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'

Congratulations!

That's a beautiful and nicely manicured gun range.

Which gun did you like the best?

A small caution on your "relax" comment. Yes, you don't want to operate with anxiety. But with the pistols, you do need to keep your gun hand/arm kind of stiff. There's a thing called "limp wristing", whereby if you allow your wrist/arm to move backward and absorb too much of the recoil, the automatic feeding of the next cartridge by the gun may not work properly.

Now you'll start viewing all gun news in the mass media as the crap it usually is. Your conversion to the side of truth and justice has just begun. Warning: You will be called a "nut" for daring to point this out to anyone who doesn't own a gun or has never shot a gun... And Maryland is the home of some of America's biggest idiocy when it comes to gun control.

Welcome.

Thanks!

You know you've made it to the Dark Side when you're greeted by JohnRich. He's like the Dark Lord of the Smith & Wesson on this forum.:D:D:D

seriously, I'm just not used to the act of pointing a gun at a target & holding it there without any wobble between shots. Yesterday I tried to practice by holding a heavy iron pot out at arms length, with a laser pointer balanced on it & tried to keep the red light on a fixed point as long as I could. and I have to learn to not try to squint when I aim.

Shooting a gun alters logical thinking and reasoning skills? That explains a lot

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
