Terrorist attacks on Americans

Recommended Posts

I had this emailed to me today and figrued I would share it with everyone. Take it as you'd like but to me it says that waging the GWOT is exactly what we need to be doing. They've been taking the fight to us for years, and a series of presidents did little to nothing in response. Finally we have a president who steps up to the plate to show that we mean buisness and people do nothing more than throw out claims of how he's causing the terrorist problem and should've seen the attacks coming in the first place. I can't remember what the exact number is anymore but i used to have the statistics for all the terrorist attacks commited against US assests during the Clinton administration, and if I remember correctly the number was just short of 100. Recently terrorist attacks against the US have all but diminished.

AMERICA NEEDS TO WAKE UP!

That's what we think we heard on the 11th of September 2001 (When more
than 3,000 Americans were killed) and maybe it was, but I think it
should have been "Get Out of Bed!" In fact, I think the alarm clock has
been buzzing since 1979 and we have continued to hit the snooze button
and roll over for a few more minutes of peaceful sleep since then.

It was a cool fall day in November 1979 in a country going through a
religious and political upheaval when a group of Iranian students
attacked and seized the American Embassy in Tehran. This seizure was an
outright attack on American soil; it was an attack that held the
world's
most powerful country hostage and paralyzed a Presidency. The attack on
this sovereign U. S. embassy set the stage for events to follow for the
next 25 years.

America was still reeling from the aftermath of the Vietnam experience
and had a serious threat from the Soviet Union when then, President
Carter, had to do something. He chose to conduct a clandestine raid in
the desert. The ill-fated mission ended in ruin, but stood as a symbol
of
America's inability to deal with terrorism.

America's military had been decimated and down sized/right sized since
the end of the Vietnam War. A poorly trained, poorly equipped and
poorly
organized military was called on to execute a complex mission that was
doomed from the start.

Shortly after the Tehran experience, Americans began to be kidnapped
and
killed throughout the Middle East. America could do little to protect
her
citizens living and working abroad. The attacks against US soil
continued!

In April of 1983 a large vehicle packed with high explosives was
driven
into the US Embassy compound in Beirut When it explodes, it kills 63
people. The alarm went off again and America hit the Snooze Button once
more.

Then just six short months later in 1983 a large truck heavily laden
down
with over 2500 pounds of T NT smashed through the main gate of the US
Marine Corps headquarters in Beirut and 241 US servicemen are killed.
America mourns her dead and hit the Snooze Button once more.

Two months later in December 1983, another truck loaded with
explosives
is driven into the US Embassy in Kuwait, and America continues her
slumber.

The following year, in September 1984, another van was driven into the
gate of the US Embassy in Beirut and America slept.

Soon the terrorism spreads to Europe. In April 1985 a bomb explodes in
a
restaurant frequented by US soldiers in Madrid.

Then in August 1985 a Volkswagen loaded with explosives is driven into
the main gate of the US Air Force Base at Rhein-Main, 22 are killed and
the snooze alarm is buzzing louder and louder as US interests are
continually attacked.

Fifty-nine days later in 1985 a cruise ship, the Achille Lauro is
hijacked and we watched as an American in a wheelchair is singled out
of
the passenger list and executed.

The terrorists then shift their tactics to bombing civilian airliners
when they bomb TWA Flight 840 in April of 1986 that killed 4 and the
most
tragic bombing, Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in1988,
killing 259.

Clinton treated these terrorist acts as crimes; in fact we are still
trying to bring these people to trial. These are acts of war.

The wake up alarm is getting louder and louder.

The terrorists decide to bring the fight to America. In January 1993,
two
CIA agents are shot and killed as they enter CIA headquarters in
Langley,
Virginia.

The following month, February 1993, a group of terrorists are arrested
after a rented van packed with explosives is driven into the
underground
parking garage of the World Trade Center in New York City. Six people
are
killed and over 1000 are injured. Still this is a crime and not an act
of
war? The Snooze alarm is depressed again.

Then in November 1995 a car bomb explodes at a US military complex in
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia killing seven service men and women.

A few months later in June of 1996, another truck bomb explodes only
35
yards from the US military compound in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. It
destroys
the Khobar Towers, a US Air Force barracks, killing 19 and injuring
over
500. The terrorists are getting braver and smarter as they see that
America does not respond decisively.

They move to coordinate their attacks in a simultaneous attack on two
US
embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. These attacks were planned with
precision. They kill 224. America responds with cruise missile attacks
and goes back to sleep.

The USS Cole was docked in the port of Aden, Yemen for refueling on 12
October 2000, when a small craft pulled along side the ship and
exploded
killing 17 US Navy Sailors. Attacking a US War Ship is an act of war,
but
we sent the FBI to investigate the crime and went back to sleep.

And of course you know the events of 11 September 2001. Most Americans
think this was the first attack against US soil or in America. How
wrong
they are. America has been under a constant attack since 1979 and we
chose to hit the snooze alarm and roll over and go back to sleep!!!

In the news lately we have seen lots of finger pointing from every
high
official in government over what they knew and what they didn't know.
But
if you've read the papers and paid a little attention I think you can
see
exactly what they knew. You don't have to be in the FBI or CIA or on
the
National Security Council to see the pattern that has been developing
since 1979.

I think we have been in a war for the past 25 years and it will
continue
until we as a people decide enough is enough! America needs to "Get out
of Bed" and act decisively now. America has been changed forever. We
have
to be ready to pay the price and make the sacrifice to ensure our way
of
life continues. We cannot afford to keep hitting the snooze button
again
and again and roll over and go back to sleep.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Admiral Yamamoto said "... it seems
all
we have done is awakened a sleeping giant." This is the message we need
to disseminate to terrorists around the world.

This is not a political thing to be hashed over in an election year
this
is an AMERICAN thing. This is about our Freedom and the Freedom of our
children in years to come.

History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid.

Hi

I agree up to a point. GW inherited the problem.

But just like the politicans before him GW AND his people are only making the situation worse.

The next president and the next and the next will have to deal with the Hornets nest that GW and the previous president stirred up.

IMO A new spin on the domino theory.[:/]

Explain how taking more and more steps to limit our freedom is going to guarantee freedom for years to come.

Explain how progressively eliminating the protections of the Constitution will ensure that our way of life continues.

The Global War on Terror is NOT going to be won by bombs & guns & tanks. That stuff kills the enemy, but doesn't affect the mindset behind it. IT's a fight against an ideaology, not a group or organisation.

Just like the cold war was won in the shops, so the war on terror will be won in legislature and fair trade.

TO win, the cause, rather than the symptoms need to be addressed.

It causes me to loose sleep when we agree, Professor. I was stationed in Europe in the mid-70's. Then, it was the Bader-Meinhoff gang shooting at us. Whose fault was that? There will always be fanatics and targets of opportunity.

The Professor's right. Every time I go through airport security, I am saddened for our loss of constitutional freedoms. I'm even more saddened at the " false sense" of security at the expense of those freedoms. There will always be fanatics and targets of opportunity.
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

Many of the terrorist attacks cited in that article were directed against US soldiers. Surely the insurgent attacks on US soldiers in Iraq should similarly be counted as terrorist attacks on the US? In that case they've not diminished but hit record highs.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

How can you count those as terrorist attacks, in Iraq we have placed ourselves on the battlefield with the terrorists in an effort to draw them into the fight. That's not a terrorist attack, it's called combat.

You are right about how the majority of those attacks in the list though were against soldiers, kind of funny how the US public couldn't give two shits less about the loss of a few soldiers, but when civilians get attacked its horrible. Oh wait, I forgot, we're soldiers, we're expendable and mean nothing to the public we protect[:/][:/]

We left the terrorist battlefield when we pulled the vast majority of our troops out of Afghanistan. Iraq is not part of the so called "war on terror" unless of course you want to look at the Iraq war as a means for cultivating more terrorists.

To the contrary. Soldiers are not expendable and it sickens me that our civilian leadership has repeatedly ignored our military leadership in favor of this middle east imperialism campaign. Our soldiers have been performing valiantly considering that they were sent to do a job that they were not trained or equipped for. And when something bad happens, instead of respect the soldiers get blamed for carrying out orders that originated in the offices of the Pentagon lawyers. Add in the multiple tours, the stop loss programs and the poor pay and health care shortcomings and you have only scratched the surface on how this civilian leadership has abused our military. Instead of Bush, Rummy, Cheney, Rice and the rest of the warmongering bunch saying that they stand *behind* our troops, I say let them put up or shut up and stand in *front* of our troops. That would be leadership.

Sadly most people really seem to feel that way.
Oh yeah they bought a yellow ribbon and now they are absolved of having to serve their country, that is for someone else or somebody elses kid to do.

What a bunch of fuckwads.

Would it not be more fair to say that the US went into Iraq to ensure " stability " [ read : make sure our oil supply is good ] in the region . Of course the tons and tons of weapons of mass destruction discovered did away with that theory .. what am i talking about.

Welcome to Delta. I think this is an insult to the men that died on that mission and a slur on the reputation of Delta. This aritcle is a crock of shit. Taking various unrelated attacks and bunching them all together to try and provide a timeline for a mythical coordinated terror group that simply doesn't exist. This is very simplistic xenophobic attempt to justify the errosion of civil liberties at 'home' and the errosion of international law under the non sensical GWOT.

Many of the posters here fail to admit or recognize WHO we are really fighting here.

I believe, as do many others, that this is the biggest threat ever, to free world nations! Bigger than Hitler.

We are fighting a threat that is hiding behind a religion! Radical Islam.

There stated position is to eliminate (non-believers) or rule everyone in the world. Either agree with or submit to, their views or die. It is that simple. This current situation (IMO) has nothing to do with who was or is president.

When that attack happens the rest will recognize this.

I believe we currently have a president that sees this threat for what it is. Do you? (not meant for the poster to whom I respond to)

The "biggest threat ever" was communism. You may not have been around back then, but be assured that we were all facing certain death at the face of the insane, power-hungry communists. They would stop at nothing to see their ideology spread all over the world, and would kill anyone who stood in their way. And they had nuclear weapons. Al Qaeda doesn't.

This is just another scare article, trying to get fear to replace reason. The more fear, the easier people are to control. Machiavelli's "The Prince" has a good overview of how the State can control a populace, and making them afraid is one of the best ways there is.

No scare tactic. It is the truth you fail to recognize. (again, this is my and many others opinions) Militant Islamic Facsisim is the enemy. There is only one way to get rid of this threat. Eliminate it. Iraq is but one step to that end.

I agree there is a power hungry group involved here. Your problem is you mis-indientify it. It is not the US. Never has been and it will not be under this president!

To claim that this is a bigger threat than that is ludicrous. You're letting your fear guide you if you really think that.
