Major terror plan stopped in Britain

Recommended Posts

In the German news up to now they are just talking about "liquid explosives" - no mentioning of any particular kind.
Nearly all flights from continental Europe to UK are cancelled for today.

From London, only flights with a duration of over 3 hours are departing.

No hand luggage allowed except for flight tickets, passports, glasses (without cover). even flight attendants and pilots have to follow this rule.

The only liquids allowed on board is baby food if tested by parents in front of the security personal.

This is obviously a thinly veiled plot by Bush and Blair...

Or... It's a thinly veiled plot by the Newcastle-Curry-Houses to mainitain their dominance of the "Explosive-Vindaloo-Market".

Incidentally, you keep mis-spelling Phony-Tony's surname; The rule is: "i before a when you see his teeth".

So, basically it's "i" before "a" ALL the time!

Incidentally, the "B" is silent.

Careful, or you'll be kept incommunicado for years in one of the right-wing secret prisons :P

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

It's not so bad... Here in The EU, the "Human-Rights-Laws" mean they still have to allow us internet-access!:)
If you misbehave, then instead of "Lock-Down" they put you in "Dial-Up"!:o

I beleive 6 planes targeted with chemical liquid explosives in hand lugage. 21 arrested so far.

I say hang them

It was Nitroglycerin.

Where did you see that, Randy?

Nitroglycerin is generally unsuitable as a practical explosive - too unpredictable and unstable. were these guys actually serious, or are they like the bunch of losers that was "plotting" to blow the Sears Tower?

I heard nitroglycerin on the news also. I also heard each terrorist might have been carrying a different ingredient and they would be combined once airborne; like in the toilet. Would it be possile to carry separate ingredients to make nitroglycerin?

It requires time and a bathtub full of ice.

EDIT: and I really doubt they would use NG. In a non stabalized form, its very sensitive. Would be very difficult to transport.

Agreed. Using water, an aluminum canister, some electronics and a simple detonator would be a lot simpler. (Heck, they'll _give_ you the water on the airplane!) And no, I'm not going to explain how to do it.

The 3 articles I read said the explosives were "Peroxide" based. If I remember correctly, that mixture is what they used in the London bombings last year

This is obviously a thinly veiled plot by Bush and Blair to get Lieberman re-elected and to shore up support for the right-wing in the coming elections. Ever notice how whenever one of Bush's buddies poll numbers are dropping that something like this happens?

I've read that the intel for this bust came from info gathered by the NSA listening machine. I wonder what the folks who argued this against you think now? ;)

You noticed the silence too, eh? Most likely they won't comment or will come up with the normal bullshit reason why they weren't really wrong or how it's not exactly what they meant or how it still doesn't justify listening for keywords.

I'll bet those people who were ready to board those planes are happy the plot was foiled by the NSA info.

Unlike the Chairborn Ostriches who sit comfortably behind their keyboards and choose to send innocent civilians off to their deaths because they don't want to have a couple of keywords of their conversations monitored.

We should not try and prevent any event, that way we can all say "well at least nobody heard me talking dirty to my _______ "(you fill in the blank).

Maybe Airline passengers need to sign a waiver that
says they accept their are no baggage checks, and the flight might be interrupted at altitude.

The report I read said the information came from British Intelligence, not the NSA.

"In recent days, the Federal Bureau of Intelligence sent hundreds of agents around the United States to chase down possible leads from British intelligence sources."

Some quote from Benjamin Franklin comes to mind.
