BRIDGEWOOD 0 #1 August 16, 2006 This is for the agnostics and atheists. If you HAD to choose a religion, which one would it be? Of the religions I know about, i'd have to choose buddhism. I like the idea behind self enlightenment and respect for all creatures.

lawrocket 3 #3 August 16, 2006 I listed Asatru (Norse Pagan) on my dogtags in the Army, but only because I thought it would be cool to be put on a boat and have it set out to sea burning. Now THAT's a funeral! Plus, it has several goddesses of secuality (Freyja is a hottie!) fertility and ecstasy, and beer is offered to the Gods and that which the Gods don't take is to be consumed. But I also gotta dig Shinto - it's about having a good time, but demonstrating sensibility, self improvement, and a positive attitude in having that ood time. My wife is hotter than your wife. Most excellent choice! The Norse pantheon is pretty cool with what seem like some brilliantly trippy concepts about alternate dimensions/ realities/ levels of existence and stuff. Tink1717 2 #11 August 16, 2006 Choosing a religion is simply not an option. Religions are, at best, silly, and at worst dangerous and divisive. hairyjuan 0 #12 August 16, 2006 i totally agree with tink on religion. a serious look at them all will reveal that the virgin born saviour crucified, raised from the dead is a common thread. the priesthood denies this, and creates the division he refers to. hinduism, buddhism, christianity all possess the above mentioned characteristics. www.hermes-press.com has a wealth of information about 'higher conciousness'we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively wishers never choose, choosers never wish
BRIDGEWOOD 0 #13 August 16, 2006 Yeah, I choose not to follow any set pattern for spirituality either. This is a question of which religion would you be the least offended by or would most be in line with your train of thought. Remember, this is a hypothetical and you HAVE to choose one. The self imposed guilt is rather arbitrary and doesn't 'really' intrude in your daily life, only in your public face. and the dress code is very casual so other than the dress code, a 'policial party' religion is pretty much the same either way ... wmw999 2,456 #20 August 18, 2006 Quote why pick a religion? do you need social support to find divinity for yourself? The right community of people can help you look in the right directions for yourself, and encourage you to ask the right questions. They can join in doing good works that are harder to do alone. It might not be a church that does that, but sometimes it is. Sometimes people are less creative in thinking when they're by themselves than when they're with others. Zenister 0 #21 August 18, 2006 that is common human social interactions.. strength and comfort in numbers, as if numbers had anything to do with Truth.... that is a fine path for learning about humanity, (religion teaches us more about ourselves than Divinity) IME all that leads to is group think... "I find comfort here, these people agree with my beliefs, i like these people, therefore their beliefs must be true"?? but how does that enhance ones understanding of the universal? its great if your looking for a security blanket.. but says nothing about Divinity as much as it does Humanities need to belong to something...____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. TrophyHusband 0 #22 August 18, 2006 i don't think religious belief is a choice. you either believe something or you don't, but you can't will yourself to have faith. i know what your getting at though, and if i had to choose i would choose satanism. not the type that sacrifices lambs and summons demons, but the type that has lots of sex, believes each person is his or her own god, and makes fun of catholic rituals.
