Mexico (Tijuana) - Is it safe?

Recommended Posts

Quote

Probably about 1 year ago, I would tell fellow jumpers wanting to visit TJ that it was safe; that only people involved in drug smuggling were in danger (aside from the obvious consequences of being drunk in public and immoral behavior which, of course, skydivers never do...). Now, from my perspective, things have changed dramatically. That is why I would like to know how non-Mexicans see the violence situation in my Country.

To be honest, in the UK we never really hear about it. Mexico has a good rep for tourists over here pretty much. In fact the only time we ever really hear about Mexico is if there has been a disaster or if the US has done something bizzare or absurd to secure the border.

Ever hear of Guantanamo? Humans sit in jail for ever there without charges being brought.

That is really wrong. We should just shoot them and get it over with. Maybe a big gas chamber disguised as a shower. How many Muslims can you fit in an oven? Hmmmm............There's some good concepts here. I just need to think them out better. :P:D

I spent a bit of time in Mexico in the eighties. My experiences in TJ and Mexicalli led me to believe that Mexico is very nice once you get away from the border towns. After spending last winter in BCS My opinion about avoiding TJ now extends past Ensenada. I met quite a few people from both TJ and Ensenada who miss their old homes but will never go back.

the first thing we saw crossing from Laredo to Nuevo Laredo in the tunnel was a group of guys huffing paint and throwing rocks at our railcar (a 75' long rail inspection car. We were told that we would be welcomed as liberators:P).

Copper canyon should not be missed even though the rail line through that region is often hit by banditos, no shit. We had two armed federales with us at all times during the test.

Beautiful places along the Canyon. Amazing scenery. Neat rail system!!! But you are right, one of the scariest nights I've ever spent while traveling/backpacking in Mexico was in Temoris (the lower part where the rail lines are)... spooky people!

No matter how many smilies you put in there that is still not funny.

Your obsession with turning every thread into America-bashing is just amazing! Try and focus on the subject at hand. Con...cen...trate...!

If you concentrated more you would see the relevance.

Very helpful if trying to predict the weather. Bush should try it instead of pretending he's a military strategist.
