Hayfield 0 #1 October 11, 2006 Hi all, I am a self-proclaimed militant liberal. When I'm with extreme left liberal types I feel like an alien and am often accused of being a closet conservative due to my support of the military (not to be confused with support for the current administration). In the company of conservatives I'm usually lumped with liberals and green party types because of my pro-environment (human health) and workers' rights tendencies. What I find funny is the proclivity of working types to defend the "system" (minimally regulated capitalism) as it currently is. Labor Unions have been vilified, anybody calling for reform has been labeled communist, and xenophobic tendencies in the USA are at a high not seen since the "red menace". Who are we as a nation anymore? What happened to that amazing document called the constitution? It seems to me we've become cult-like followers to individuals and specific party affiliations and not dedicated defenders of the greatest document ever penned (US Constitution). I guess the real question I'm asking you, skydivers, an easily marginalized minority population, is: Is America in real trouble? Will we become Orwell's Winston Smith? Will we one day shed a tear for rights lost as we realize that we too, love big brother? Now we're a bunch of races, colors, creeds, classes, nationalities, etc., instead of the individual. QuoteI am a self-proclaimed militant liberal. I'm just happy to be Jerry. I don't hate anybody in particular, just groups of people, i.e., "white pride" crackers (who usually hate their parents - their pride in their race stops at the first branch on the racial-identity tree), and anybody whose priorities are not themselves, but their groups. I'm the worst of the worst because I don't identify myself with any group or groups. Maybe because I'm an ardent individualist. Feel rejected by all groups because you don't fit in? Good. It shows you are an individual and not some spineless groupie. It's what America was founded on - the idea that we can determine for ourselves what and who we'll be. My wife is hotter than your wife. We (US) are a nation of consumers who get our politicians, news, entertainment, and consumer products all from the same small group of corporations. We don't care what our government does so long as we get cheap gas, cheap fatty, salty foods, cheap clothes (made with indentured prostitute, child labor in US territories off the coast of China) and still have enough money left over to buy a bunch of useless plastic shit (that the kids play with for a week until we take it to the overflowing landfill) at Walmart. We don't care if our government rewards energy companies for poisoning us with mercury or waters our veggies with sewage waste water while simultaneously spreading human and industrial sludge in our agricultural fields. We don't care if we have to leave our children in the custody of other people to raise because both parents have to work to maintain the lifestyle that out media paints as "normal". So we work long hours so that we can afford our gas guzzling, overpriced SUV's and the creation of the illusion of ownership of our overpriced housing. We also don't care about living a lifestyle that is sustainable for our children or grandchildren, just so long as we can get whatever we can....NOW. Hopefully that will be enough to elevate us over the poor schmucks who were too stupid or lazy to get off their asses and get a 5$/hr job (which is 821 times less than the average CEO salary) to pay for their overpriced health care and $160,000 four year education. Our government can do whatever it wants, kill whoever it wants, enslave, spy on us, torture, poison, destroy entire ecosystems, dumb us down and do it with money borrowed from our children (and our "enemies") so long as the reality TV programming keeps coming and we are told that we're better than everyone else. There, that ought to get things started
unformed 0 #7 October 11, 2006 As Americans we are descendants of monkeys, and we like to do the same things monkeys do, specifically eat, sleep, and fuck. Everything else we do really boils down to these three things, and mostly the latter. We don't like working, yet we work, and for what reason, so we can buy a bigger house than we use, drive a nicer/bigger car than we need, buy clothes we will rarely wear, and buy other things that we don't necessarily even what, and for what reason? We think it will get us better pussy. This is not a strictly American way of living. It is how it is all over the world, and throughout the Animal Kingdom as well. Our first priority is food. We want to eat. Once that's taken care of, we want shelter so we can sleep. In the meantime, we need to spread our sperm so we can extend our bloodlines. Next we want to eat well and sleep well. As we take care of this, our last goal is getting the better pussy. And the rest of our lives we spend doing things just for that reason. This ad space for sale. It's hilarious how people automatically polarize you as "one of them" for not blindly submitting to thier agenda. My associates on the far left have called me a hatemongering intolerant Nazi yet my asociates on the right have accused me of being a gay communist tree-hugger. QuoteIt seems to me we've become cult-like followers to individuals and specific party affiliations and not dedicated defenders of the greatest document ever penned (US Constitution). Precisely the problem. Neither Liberal/democrat voters or Conservative/Republican voters will ever acknowledge the other party/wing has a valid point. Too many people pledge alliegance to thier wing and blindly submit to every agenda forwarded by that wing. I think regardles of your wing/party if you cannot at least point out a few issues where the other wing/party has the right idea and your party doesn't then you have stopped thinking and are letting your wing think for you as you march along obediantly to your wings/party's drumbeat. This is an all to common tendency today. QuoteIs America in real trouble? Will we become Orwell's Winston Smith? Will we one day shed a tear for rights lost as we realize that we too, love big brother? The very fact that Americans ask this question with such frequency, diminishes (does not eliminate) the probability that this could happen. I do however have a counter question. Does our inherent fear of Orwellian big brother, slippery slope to totalitarianism not sometimes cripple our willingness to support radical new laws? I often notice that when it comes to new laws regarding crime prevention, some quite effective propositions are immediately shot down for fear of "big brother". Is there a double edged sword argument there? Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within. I acknowledge there is a gunuine reason to keep tabs on our government and controls on thier power but I also feel that some people are paranoid about it to the point where they would render the government impotent in it's ability to do its job (which includes protecting us). livetofall 0 #23 October 13, 2006 Hi, Hayfield. I see that you brought up unions. The funny thing is, bieng a union mechanical tradesman, I know that we as a group are the most fucked and confused. The simple fact is, is that if the GOP would quit supporting the cocksuckers that want to repeal the Davis-Bacon act, they probably could win the unions. We dropped the Dem party when clinton didnt veto the China Free trade act. HE was a straight up fuckin traitor to the men that have dumped plenty into the dem party. We had to take then back(AFL_CIO) because Nader would split vote.' Fact is union men/women by majority are family oriented, have stocks with our pensions, love guns, hunting fishing, and dont like our money spent like state employee queer parade. Most go to church and want to see God stay in the pledge of Allegiance. The Dem party has changed so much and stabbed their own support in the back. You ask any union man how he feels about how the disease department of fed gov has spent more on AIDS research than breast cancer. Thd most controllable epidemic. try 6x as much..and no woman got bc by living a questionabale lifestyle. I might not be Rep. but sure hate them fucking traitors. Oh you ask why did i bring the AIDS subject up? Because skydivers jump for breast cancer, alot of innocent women die of it. You are very right about needing to defend the constitution, but need to remember the libs are tearing it up worse, mainly the ACLU, bastards want to even remove Bible verses from Grand Canyon as it might offend some..fuck them..go jump off the canyon commies! One other point, as far as Bush breaking constitution for antional security, what we fear?
