YvetteS 0 #1 September 13, 2017 Hi All, I'm looking at getting these Choppers glasses, but notice there are gaps in the foam. Will this work with an open face helmet, or does the foam need to seal completely? I often see pictures of open face helmets with sunglasses, but not sure if they're 100% sealed for wind? Thanks for your help :)
pchapman 279 #2 September 13, 2017 Depends on your eyes. Some jumpers use regular wraparound sunglasses that fit well, with no foam at all. Fine for them and really convenient, but that gives more wind than I find comfortable (unless doing just a short delay). So those sunglasses with foam-with-ventilation-gaps might work for you. For most people however, I think one would want something that seals completely, which usually (but not exclusively) means some goggles made for skydiving. mr2mk1g 10 #3 September 13, 2017 I use exactly those and have for years - the choppers logo prises off nicely with a fingernail. They work great and a bunch of my friends also use them but I suppose it will depend on the shape of your face. Eventually an arm will break where the over the ear section attaches but they're cheap as chips so just buy some more. Keep the broken pair and when the next arm breaks, as long as it's the opposite arm, scavenge a spare off the old set. Alternatively you can remove the arms altogether and use the screws they attach with to attach the elastic and turn it into a strap like a regular set of goggles. tabouare 25 #4 September 13, 2017 I use something similar and found that there was not enough ventilation for me. I ended up cutting more groves in the foam to prevent fogging and will probably remove a big chunk of the foam in the near future since I'm still having issues with my right eye fogging in the plane. The first time I used them, they were flopping up and down because I set the elastic for comfort. I highly recommend the elastic with an open face to be able to adjust them. https://www.amazon.com/Bobster-Sport-Sunglasses-Black-Smoked/dp/B002P3LLTY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1505307206&sr=8-2&keywords=Bobster+GXR
DBCOOPER 5 #5 September 13, 2017 See if you can find a pair of these. Work perfect for me with an open face helmet. This guy doesn't ship internationally. http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-Military-Issue-UVEX-XC-Shooting-Safety-Glasses-Interchangeable-Lenses-Kit/322673436536?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20150313114020%26meid%3Db2837c88fe4742ffac898ce16143a0d4%26pid%3D100338%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D14%26sd%3D152378517347&_trksid=p2141725.c100338.m3726Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea. Deimian 43 #7 September 15, 2017 Just 3 comments: -The foam inserts normally wear out rather fast. At least the ones I tried. -If the glass is polarized it will make it difficult to read digital altimeters. You'll be distracted trying to find a proper angle to being able to read it. That's the main reason why I don't jump with my driving sunglasses. -I thought I would need something tight, with inserts, etc. I was wrong. I jump now Julbo Montebianco with a relatively loose strap, and I have had no issues. Some occasional shacking when I stand up for a long time, but that's about it. I think we tend to overestimate the need for a tight fit in our goggles.
