"How the US Military Hurts the Poor And Uneducated"

Recommended Posts

This is an argument that many without formal education throw out there.

Much like ugly people stating that looks aren't important.

(I don't think common sense is any more or less correlated, positively or negatively, to education. To assume that lack of one automatically implies a greater amount of the other borders on PC thugery. This is no more convincing than Lucky's arguments to the contrary. Though at least it's a bit more pithy.)

I'm not trying to imply that a lack of one means more of another. It has just been my experience that those who have joined or not have had more of one or another.

I have had troops with no common sense or books smarts, and have known college studints who have had more common sense and been extremely well educated before even heading to college.

Oh, and looks are important...as long as I'm sober or don't have access to a paper bag ;)

There are a lot of variables involved in educational success besides basic intelligence.

"When we use the term "smart", I think it can apply to anyone. I believe everyone is "smart" in something and contributes to the greater society with their uniqueness. If we were all smart only in one area, we would not grow as a society. like I said before, I have met many smart people. Some educated and some not. Each person who comes into my life has a unique smart ability and I can learn from them. One person may be smart in mathmatics, and another in computers and another in language. We all have our individual "smartness" to contribute. We all are doing that now in this debate."______________________________________________ I think that's the smartest thing anyone one here has said in awhile;) And I'm not being sarcastic. Pun intended

I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

The requisite of joining the US military without being a US citizen has been around for a while, check your facts, its not that hard, the practices have been done to include WWI - WWII veterans. You must be a US resident though, and not allowed to get secret clearance (and certain jobs) until you become a citizen.

I think you are wrong. When i was living in the U.S (back in the early 90) A recruiter came to our high school and he personally told me that you had to be a U.S citizen to join. But i guess that Juanesky knows it better. Or maybe the recruiter was lying to me...

In the past you have tried to bring your military conclusion "based one what you think", and it has failed terribly.

It doesn´t get any more ambiguous than that. Care to provide a link....

For example to have certain jobs in the armed forces you need certain score in the general aptitud test (ASVAB) you take, of course since you don't have a clue about this, you prefer to argue a point with uneducated guesses. If you try to join any branch have no HS diploma or GED, they will not take you.

You haven´t read the article i posted have you? The U.S inmigration department clearly states that you do not need to be a U.S citizen nor need to have a HS diploma. It does talk about the ASVAB score but since they don´t say the score you need to get to join that test does not reflect how smart you have to be for being let in.

Please do read the article (it is not too long) and then we can discuss the matter.

FYI Being a US citizen is far diferent as the treatment I and many of my relatives / friends have received as Spanish citizens in Spain, who where subjected to racism and ignorance because in there being a Spanish citizen depends on the origin you have, if you are from South America you will always be considered a 2nd class citizen Sudaca. So much for an enlightened European country.....unlike in the US, you are citizen and that's all that is valid.:|

Oh, come on, that is why it was necesary affirmative action towards black U.S citizens, because there is no racism... Sometimes a wonder if you are truly living in the U.S

By the way, we only call Sudacas those South Americans that come illegally, get in their guettos and give trouble while joining the "latin kings", "ñetas", "dominicans don´t play", etc. and do not try to adapt to our way of life. My girlfriend is not an Spanish citizen and she has never had any problem whatsoever, even more she is quite happy with how she has been treated by everybody. But of course she came to spain legally and willing to earn a living working hard.
I honestly don´t know why your family and your friends have had any trouble. I know plenty of people from South America and most of them are very happy. (If not they wouldn´t stay)

Go figure no wonder the issues in many european nations (France-England) about having whole ethnic groups protesting the shitty treatment they get as citizens of that country just based on origins.

I bet those million mexicans who went on a strike in the U.S recently did it because they were being treated very well... Come on Juanesky, i have been living in the U.S. I have seen it.

So, we can safely conclude the following:

a) That you don't need to be a US citizen, but a US resident to be in the US armed forces, funny thing is you tell me I'm wrong, then recite an article that says precisely that.

b) That you believe everything anyone tells you, and you don't care for the actual facts, but rather consider your opinions, specially about the US military your facts. Such as we don't need to be intelligent but rather be stupid and know how to follow orders, because that is our only job. Got ya.
You know nothing or very little about how even the process of joining/training goes, waivers, and requisites (HS or GED being one) (you need to aqcuire one if they waive the requirement, and if you don't you r out). But what would I know!
Yet I'm the ambiguous one. Man thanks for the laugh.

By the way the "Million Mexicans" were not only mexicans, the context was about the illegals in this country, and how to change their legal status here. How interesting, illegals doing a public demonstration having the right to peacefully do so.

I suggest you get some help in regards to that US anger-hatred you hold so deeply in, it can't be good.
